My homemade Macaroni Cheese recipe is what I'd call my signature dish if I ever decided to audition for Masterchef (not that I would with my lack of culinary skills) because everyone who tries it, loves it!I can guarantee that if I ask either of the kids what they want to see on our meal plan, they'll ALWAYS ask for homemade macaroni cheese and I'm pretty sure that 90% of the meal plans that I've ever shared on here will have featured this meal in one form or another. We've had it with cooked broccoli or cauliflower added to it, with crispy bacon served chopped up on top, with … [Read more...]
Homemade Cheesy Bread Buns….
This recipe for homemade cheesy bread buns is a super easy recipe that the kids will love to help with! Baking bread was always a favourite activity with my two when they were younger and even now, Master Frugal can always be tempted away from his Xbox if there's bread to be baked. Once a week, we'll have homemade pizzas for tea with the pizza base made by hand by one of the kids and we actually use the same recipe for bread buns as we do for our pizza bases so we don't even need to look now. These homemade cheesy bread buns are an old favourite of ours and seeing as … [Read more...]
Instant Pot ham, potato and corn chowder….
Honestly, this Instant Pot Ham, Potato and Corn Chowder is life-changing* and I'm can practically guarantee that once you've made this once, it'll be a regular addition to your weekly meal plan.*OK, life-changing may be a slight exaggeration but it's AMAZING!**Also, I should say that the photos don't do this justice as it was a grey day outside (hence the need for comfort food like this) and there was no way any amount of editing was going to pep them up!I'm really starting to love my Instant Pot now that I'm starting to get a bit braver with it! When I first got it, I looked … [Read more...]
Super Refreshing Homemade Lemonade….
Homemade Lemonade is the most amazing, refreshing drink that you can have on a hot day!We first shared a mint version of our homemade lemonade a few years ago when we had an over-enthusiastic mint plant growing on our kitchen windowsill and a glut of fresh lemons from the reduced section at the shop and it was amazing! Since then, we've tried all sorts of different lemonade flavours - blueberry, peach, strawberry and even a lavender flavour and they've all been lovely but on a hot day, the most refreshing version is definitely just plain old homemade lemonade with no … [Read more...]
Leftover Mash Cheesy Potato Pancakes….
These cheesy Potato Pancakes are an amazing way to use up leftover mashed potatoes!I've tried making something similar to this in the past to use up leftover gammon and mash but as amazing as they tasted, they definitely didn't look as tasty as they could have done. And then I saw a recipe for something similar which used flour to thicken the mix before cooking so I had a try making them with added flour and they held their shape so much better when they were cooking. I also used more oil this time which isn't my favourite way to cook but it definitely helped them crisp … [Read more...]
Instant Pot Tomato Sauce (with optional hidden veg)….
Instant Pot tomato sauce with hidden veg is your secret weapon when it comes to meal planning!I've shared my slow cooker tomato sauce recipe loads of times because it's been a key ingredient in so many of our meals since the first time I made it. It's versatile, easy to make and super cheap so I make it whenever I'm having a big batch cooking session and freeze it in different sized portions.I have some small-sized portions that I defrost when we need pizza toppings or as a topping for chicken (kind of like Hunters chicken) and larger-sized portions for things like pasta … [Read more...]
