My basic quiche recipe is one that I learned from my Mam years ago. I always used to look forward to her baking days because they were wonderfully predictable. There would almost always be a quiche, a corned beef pie and a cake chosen from her well-thumbed Be-Ro cookbook.I can still picture her standing in the kitchen with that cookbook open on the worktop, deciding which cake to make while the quiche and corned beef pie were already well underway. Looking back, I think those baking days are probably the reason I still love making simple, homemade food now. They're some of my happiest … [Read more...]
I Got a Pie Maker for Free… Sort Of…
One of my friends popped round for a catch up a couple of weeks ago and it was the first time they'd been since we moved house so they got the obligatory tour of the house, ending in the kitchen where we put the kettle on and chatted while we waited for it to boil. She spotted a couple of my kitchen gadgets which got us talking about some of the random gadgets we both own and as we chatted, we both realised that we had a stack of kitchen gadgets each in our kitchens - some of which we use all the time and some are just gathering dust at the back of the cupboards. Somewhere in the … [Read more...]

Whether you’ve accidentally cooked too much (this is me every time 😂) or you’ve got a bowl left … [Read more...]
Eight ways to use up Yorkshire Puddings {and my tried and true recipe}….
I’ve got another post to share today from my Love Your Leftovers series and this one isn't one that I planned when I first wrote a list of foods that I was going to feature in this series. I got a message a couple of weeks ago asking if I could do Yorkshire Puddings and I admit, my first thought was 'Why?' - we never have a leftover Yorkshire Pudding in this house. 😁 But I have been batch cooking my Yorkshires over the last few months so I thought I'd give it a go as I have plenty in the freezer. As I say, leftover Yorkshire puddings don’t happen often in this house, … [Read more...]
Eight ways to use up Mashed Potato…
I've got another post to share today from my Love your Leftovers series of posts and this week, it's all about how to use up mashed potatoes!I don't know what it is about mash but I seem to have an inability to guesstimate and actually make the right amount of mashed potato whenever I make it. In the past, I've under-estimated how much we would eat and made too little so now I tend to go too far the other way but I'm not entirely mad about it because I've found so many ways to make the post of any that we have leftover. Mashed potato is so versatile, so budget friendly and so easy … [Read more...]
