Did you know that in the UK every year we waste around 15 million tonnes of food every year? To put that into context, the average British family wastes around £700 a year on food that they're throwing away instead of using it up. We've reduced our food waste massively over the years simply by meal planning, using our freezer more and getting creative with our leftovers as I know lots of you lovely people have done too but there's clearly still a long way for us to go as a nation! That's why Sainsbury's have started their clever 'Waste less, Save more' campaign. They want to help … [Read more...]
5 Minute Nutella Fudge
Nutella fudge is something that I've been meaning to make for at least the last two years but I've never actually got round to making it though because there are at least a million Nutella fudge recipes online (me, exaggerate?) and each one of them seems a little different. I've read comments on posts where people have had a disaster with theirs not setting and I've also read comments where it hasn't been Nutella-y enough. Wasting perfectly good Nutella is not something my children would forgive me for so I just never ended up making it. But when I was planning my Christmas … [Read more...]
Oreo Mint Chocolate Cheesecake….
Have you ever gone into the kitchen for something random like a glass of water and ended up baking something because a particular ingredient caught your eye and inspired you? I now you're probably shaking your head right now and thinking how mad I sound but honestly, last week I went to get a glass of water and spotted a pack of Mint Oreos on the counter. I'd bought them thinking the kids would love them but apparently Mint Oreos are 'just weird' and make all the other biscuits in the biscuit tin taste funny! So, I spotted the full pack of rejected Mint Oreos and decided that I'd make a … [Read more...]
Chocolate Banoffee Quesadillas….
A few years ago, for some unknown reason, Mr Frugal bought me a quesadilla maker for Christmas. I can only assume it's because he wasn't happy with the standard of my quesadillas although he swears that he bought it because he thought I'd appreciate the quirkiness of the little Mexican hat covered gadget. It makes life easier when I make quesadillas (about once a month) but aside from that it just gathers dust in the back of the cupboard. So when I was decluttering the kitchen and trying to get rid of any gadgets that are just taking up space (slushie maker anyone?) the poor little … [Read more...]
Homemade delicious and creamy slow cooker rice pudding….
Sometimes, when the skies are grey outside and you're not feeling your best, the best thing for you is some good old fashioned home cooked comfort food and the best comfort food I know is our gorgeous slow cooker rice pudding! Yesterday afternoon was one of those afternoons where comfort food was called for but seeing as I wasn't feeling great, I called on Master Frugal to take over the kitchen and make us a batch. Slow cooker rice pudding really is easy to make yet it tastes so delicious and always makes me feel better. I make it with milk or occasionally if I have some in the house, … [Read more...]
Halloween Chocolate Bark Recipe….
Aaaagh - I've had a blog related trauma and the original of this post has been eaten so I'm having to re-write it and as always is the case, I can't get it to sound as good as the first time around. ;-) Miss Frugal and I made some Halloween chocolate bark the other day which turned out brilliantly - it tasted delicious and even more importantly (when you're 14 years old) it looked brilliant so we thought we'd share it with you today so you could have a go at making your own. Halloween chocolate bark 1 large bar of cooking milk chocolate 1 smaller bar white cooking chocolate Some spooky … [Read more...]
