You don't actually need very much at all to start living a more frugal lifestyle but there are a few things that you can invest in that will certainly help so I thought I'd spend some time today sharing my favourite frugal investments with you.... I know it might sound silly to be recommending that you actually spend money buying things to help you save money but bear with me, these things are things that I've bought that have saved me money or allowed me to be frugal without having to make a huge effort that I don't necessarily have time for as a working mum who doesn't have enough hours … [Read more...]

A message to all you fledgling frugal-lers….
A lovely lady emailed me a little while ago to thank me for showing her that being frugal doesn't necessarily mean shivering in the cold with extra socks and jumpers instead of turning the heating on which was the impression she got from some sites online and someone else recently mentioned to me that they were so overwhelmed with all of the frugal tips and tricks that they'd found online that they had no idea where to start with it all. These two comments made me stop and think because I do know what they mean from my own personal experience because it's so easy to look at what others are … [Read more...]
Perfect Slimming World chips with homemade chunky tomato ketchup….
It's OK, I'm not going to start posting about Slimming World every day but after my post yesterday, I did want to share with you my secret to perfect Slimming World Chips because they're great for everyone, not just people on Slimming World because they're healthy to make and delicious to eat. ;-) I don't peel my potatoes when I make Slimming World chips because (a) I'm lazy, (b) they taste nicer with the skin on and (c) there's loads of good stuff in the skin. I just give them a quick rinse under a cold tap and then cut them up into chip shapes. Next, I just pop them in a pan of … [Read more...]
How much SHOULD you be spending on your weekly shopping?
One thing I often get asked is how much people should be spending on their weekly shopping and I always struggle to answer it because what's right for one family isn't necessarily right for another. I thought I'd have a go at explaining how I think you should decide on your shopping budget, with a little help from my friends. ;-) The right amount to spend on your weekly shopping each week for your family depends on a number of different things, although these are the main three deciding factors in my mind: (a) How much money you have available to spend after paying for … [Read more...]
Christmas Planner Printable….
I am not a naturally organised person and in the past I've missed important events because I've either completely forgotten about them or I've simply left it too late to make the necessary arrangements for me to be there. Aside from July (which is always chaos with the end of the school year), Christmas is probably the most chaotic time of the year for us as a family and as a working Mum, I really need to plan ahead in order to make sure that I don't forget anything! For the last few years, I've spent five minutes making myself a little printable Christmas planner for me to stick on the … [Read more...]
5 ways to punish a teenager without shouting at them….
Don't tell them I told you this but my children are generally pretty awesome and we have a great relationship. They constantly amaze me with the things they do and they genuinely make me proud every single day. That's not to say that they're perfect though and there are times when they misbehave and they need to be punished because no matter how rarely they're naughty, if I don't let them know that their actions will have consequences then I wouldn't be doing my job as a parent, would I? I don't shout at them when I'm punishing them (or at least I try not to) because when I do I … [Read more...]
