This week, Master Frugal told me I was quite a cool Mum but that if I wanted to be really 'down with the kids' then there were certain things I had to learn. He very kindly offered to teach me what I needed to know and I thought some of you might benefit from my new found knowledge so here we go, here's his top tips for being a supercool parent. Anything that claims to be cool is absolutely not cool. In fact, a bag that Miss Frugal loved instantly became a no-no when we saw that the company were advertising it as a 'Super Cool Satchel' It is not cool to shorten names for places. … [Read more...]
Tried and Tested – Morrisons Sweet and Sour Sauce….
A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the Tesco value curry sauce jar as part of my new tried and tested feature where we will be trying lots of different value products and reporting back. I was really pleased at how positive the comments were as I was half expecting lots of people to say that cooking from scratch was the only right thing to do. Today I wanted to tell you about our experiences with the M Savers Sweet and Sour sauce from Morrisons which we bought for the bargain price of 25p! I completely failed with taking note of the ingredients for this but I did read through them … [Read more...]
Our First Home….
I've mentioned a few times lately how much I love living where I live but today I wanted the kids to share with you why they love our home and I thought the best way to show you would be for the kids to make a video each of their favourite place in the house. The videos didn't exactly turn out according to plan and I was tempted to get both of them to re-record them but I decided against that because I told them to tell me why they loved where we lived and they did exactly that. Kind of. So, a couple of things I'd like to point out to you before you watch them - (a) I let the kids choose … [Read more...]
Savoury Muffins – Chilli, cheese and ham muffins….
Sometimes savoury muffins can be just as tasty as sweeter versions so, after last week's super easy muffin recipe, I thought I'd share my famous (in my own mind) chilli, cheese and ham muffins which are not only delicious but also great to freeze for packed lunches and very versatile. They are lovely on their own, with butter, dipped in soup and even cut open with a slice of ham in it as a little sandwich. Chilli, Cheese and Ham Savoury Muffins 250g plain flour 3 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon paprika A pinch of salt 50g butter 1 egg 250ml milk 150g cheese (the cheese with chilli … [Read more...]
Homemade Peach Lemonade – Summer in a bottle….
We found some pathetic looking peaches and lemons in the reduced section at the shop last night so I decided to try my hand at making some sort of peach lemonade type drink. It turned our really delicious so being the lovely person that I am, I thought I'd share it with you although the photos don't really do it justice as it's such a grey day outside that I'm struggling to find any sunlight at all! Homemade Peach Lemonade 100ml water a handful of ice cubes 2 peaches, peeled and chopped the juice of 1 1/2 lemons we also added an orange as we had one sat looks lonely in the fruit … [Read more...]
My favourite guilty pleasure….
I'm pretty sure that I've mentioned hundreds a few times that I love moving house and since I bought my first house, I've moved house four times and spent countless hours searching for our next dream home browsing online estate agents sites. As much as I love where we live now, I do love looking at other people's houses. I like to see how they're decorated and get ideas for what I'd like to do in my own house but even sadder than that, I like to pretend that I've won the lottery and find a house that I would like to live in if money was no object. I sometimes forget that these sites are … [Read more...]
