I’ve been using this homemade apple pie spice mix for a couple of months now and seeing as I’ve just made a new batch, I thought I’d share the recipe with you today.
This homemade apple pie spice is perfect for adding that extra depth and warmth to your homemade apple pies but it’s also amazing in flapjacks, porridge, homemade apple sauce, muffins, pancakes and so much more.
I made some of my lovely homemade apple sauce a couple of week’s ago and used some of my homemade apple pie spice mix to add some extra warmth and it was amazing! 
I bet you have most of the ingredients for this in your spice cupboard if you fancy having a go and making your own…
Homemade Apple Pie Spice Mix....
Homemade Apple Pie Spice mix takes about 30 seconds to make and is going to be your secret weapon for the Autumn bringing depth and warmth to your dishes that you just can't get with anything else.
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
Instructions
Combine spices in a small bowl, mix well to combine. Store in a small jar or spice container.
One thing I decided not to include after the first time I made this was cardamon which lots of people include in their mix but to me, it kind of overpowered the mix even when it was just used in a small quantity – I think I added in either 1 or 1 1/2 teaspoons of it when I made my very first batch. I just left it out next time and although it’s just a subtle difference, I definitely preferred it without.
I also increased the ginger from the second time I made it because I like the extra warmth from the ginger and I think my tweaks have made the perfect blend for me. You might want to have a little tweak of the quantities I’ve used to suit the taste you prefer but my blend is definitely a good starting point.
