It's now officially half term which means that 'Operation: Family Fun Half Term' is officially underway. (By the way, that's the kids name not mine - I'm geeky but not that geeky lol)We've got loads of activities planned for this week and I've managed to put in a few days holiday from work so I'm looking forward to spending lots of time together....I asked the kids this morning what they wanted to do today and Master Frugal asked if he could do some baking with me, which was fine as I love baking with both of them but he likes to do everything himself so I try and choose really … [Read more...]

Who needs Dolmio….
In an effort to be even more of a perfect Domestic Goddess, I have just made my own tomato sauce, from scratch, without any help, on my own! It's super easy and cheap! I'm not good with technical terms but I just put some chopped onions and chopped garlic in a pan with a big glug of olive oil and cooked them until the onions were soft. She added two tins of chopped tomatoes to the mixture and poured sprinkled in some … [Read more...]

I fell off the meal planning wagon last week and spent a fortune. Without a meal plan, I did our usual weekly shop, had three extra trips to the shops midweek and ended up having two takeaways. How bad is that?I need to get back to being organised as it looks like Mr Frugal's last couple of months doing nights at work is coming to an end. Recently he's been at home all day so he's managed (just) to cope with cooking tea. Now he'll be getting in the same time as me we'll need to be more organised with getting tea ready in advance wherever possible. Also we're going … [Read more...]

Oven Baked Risotto: The Leftover Version….
It's ok - I'm not going to post a different version of the oven baked risotto recipe each week but I did want to share this one with you.Miss Frugal wanted risotto for tea but I didn't have any onion or chicken is so we decided to make a leftover version by frying some mushrooms and leeks with some leftover sausages and sticking that in the casserole dish with the rice and chicken stock. I didn't even have any garlic so I had to use Garlic salt!I cooked it in the oven until all the stock was absorbed into the rice and then I stirred some creme fraiche into it.... Et Voila, gorgeous … [Read more...]
