I've decided toshare my super easy muffin recipe with you again today because (a) I've just made a new batch of these muffins and loved them, and (b) I just got an email from a lovely reader saying she's made a batch too and loved them!I have a basic easy muffin recipe that I always stick to and I just add different bits and bobs to the mix depending on what sort of muffins I am making - the batch I made today were blueberry muffins using a couple of handfuls of frozen blueberries but I often chop up a chocolate bar or mash some mashed banana and cinnamon up to add in, both of which … [Read more...]
Remembrance…
This week marked the 12th anniversary of my brother's death and as always at this time of year, I've had a few tears and a week of feeling very bleugh.Twelve years on I'm at the point now where I can remember the good things without feeling as sad as I used to and whilst there's clearly no bright side or silver lining to losing him, I do often silently thank him for changing my life.He really did have a huge impact on my life and the way he dealt with his cancer battle genuinely changed my whole outlook on life. I feel a bit odd even thinking let alone writing it down but my life … [Read more...]
Colourful Crayons….
We love making colourful crayon cakes, they're fun to make and when they're done, they're even more fun to draw with. To make your own crayon cakes, arrange broken crayons in some paper cake cases like we've done below (we tend t use cheap silicone cases and keep some just for this but paper works just as well). If you're feeling particularly creative you can arrange them in to coordinating colour schemes, last time we made these, Miss Frugal made one using a heart shaped silicone mould case and just pink and red crayon bits which was gorgeous and almost too pretty to draw with.If … [Read more...]
A Frugal Way to Read Books….
I used to love to read but when the kids came along, I never seemed to have the time to settle down and lose myself in a good book (ot to watch the soaps or even to have a long soak in a bubble bath) but lately I've been rediscovering my love of books. In my pre-frugal days, I often used to buy books from the Supermarket when we did our weekly shop and as soon as I'd read it, usually in a day or so, it would be relegated to my big box of books under the bed to be transferred into an even bigger box of books in the garage when under the bed got full up. I must have a fortune's worth of … [Read more...]
How to be be a Cheap Date….
Seeing as it's Valentines day, I wanted to share the different ways that we enjoy time together as a couple without breaking the bank. I've learned that we don't need to spend a fortune to enjoy our together time and our relationship is definitely better because of the effort that we put into it. Our Wedding Cake Topper Some websites say the best ways to spend time together on the cheap are to go for walks together or have a nice romantic picnic - neither of which sound romatic or fun to me! I even read somewhere that you should give each other foot massages but I can't think of … [Read more...]
Don’t Forget Your Reindeer Dust….
I originally posted this a year ago today but seeing as it's getting close to the big day, I thought I'd repost it for you ;-) We've just made our reindeer dust ready for Christmas Eve. If you are planning to make reindeer dust, please, please don't use normal glitter as birds and other wildlife might try to eat it and it can make them ill.The mixture is about as easy as it gets, there's not really any set measures but I used about a mugful of oats (Tesco Value 42p).I had some pink cooking glitter left over from Miss Frugal's Birthday cake so I was just going to use that until … [Read more...]
