OK, so the title may be a bit over-dramatic but there are some really common and easy to make mistakes that lots of us make with our budgets and I wonder how many of them you can identify with? Here's my seven deadly sins of budgeting.... Not actually having a budget written down. It’s hard to stick to your budget if you don’t actually know what your budget is so it’s always worth taking the time to calculate what your budget is and then revisiting it every few months to make sure it’s still working for you. There’s a handy guide here on how to work out your budget as well as a free … [Read more...]
How to make a beautiful bow out of leftover wrapping paper….
When I give a present to someone I like to spend time choosing a present, think about what I know the person I'm giving it to will enjoy. And because I spend time on choosing the perfect (in my opinion ;-)) present, I like to make sure that it looks as pretty as possible when it's all wrapped up and ready to give.In the past, I would pop to the supermarket and buy a pack of wrapping paper to match the occasion along with a more often than not expensive matching bow to go with it and occasionally some ribbon if I wanted to really make it look nice! Present wrapping certainly wasn't cheap … [Read more...]
Five ways to make your freezer work for you….
You don't need to have a big freezer to make your freezer work for you - trust me, I know this from experience! With a little bit of organisation, the smallest of freezers can help make life easier for you. Batch cooking This is a great one, especially if you use your slow cooker a lot. It means that I have a homemade 'ready meal' sat waiting in the freezer when I need it which is a godsend when I finish work at half two and rush … [Read more...]

This little lot is what she's accumulated over the last year or so (both pairs of Converse were part of a review on here). She's not the tidiest person in the world so we needed to try and get a system in place that was easy and quick for her to use to store her shoes so we went for the photos on a box approach. We … [Read more...]
Fabulously Frugal #4….
Happy New Year!I bet lots of New Years resolutions have been made this week, many of which will involve saving money in one form or another so I'm hoping that there's going to be lots of entries this month.I was a bit sill last month and I didn't set the dates on the linky right so it was only open for a couple of days rather than the full month - I've checked and double checked this month so it should be OK! ;-)I really do want people to see that being frugal and thrifty isn't the same as being tight or stingy and that there are some many easy and fun ways to save money so the … [Read more...]
Is saving money one of your New Years Resolutions?
Every year when I write my New Years Resolution list, the same one is always right there at the top of my list - SAVE MONEY. Actually, trying to save money is always a high priority here but making it a New Years Resolution always seems to focus me on it even more than usual. As I know lots of you will be trying to focus on the same things as me I thought I'd do a quick reminder of my Money Makeover series from last year which was all about reviewing your finances and making them better....Week One – Money Makeover Introduction Week Two – Sort our your spending Week Three – Dealing … [Read more...]
