1) This week I made a batch of our homemade Febreze to give the curtains and carpets a nice little refresh. It really is lovely and refreshing and is a great alternative to the shop bought versions which cost a lot more than my budget version! Make your own here. 2) This week I cancelled Miss Frugal's mobile phone contract and switched to a great PAYG deal with EE. For £15 every 30 days she'll get 4GB data, unlimited texts and 250 minutes. Her current contract is £23.99 a month so that's a saving of £8 a month for double the data and believe me, that girl can get through … [Read more...]

Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {22nd July 2016}….
1) The kids broke up for school this week and I haven't felt the need to fill the days with trips out or activities that I think they'll enjoy. Instead we've spent absolutely no money and had a chilled out start to the holidays with a couple of evening trips to the beach, an afternoon fruit picking and a picnic at Richmond Castle thanks to our English Heritage membership. 2) Talking of fruit picking, I made some delicious strawberry muffins with the leftover strawberries which I shared with you all yesterday. Muffins are a great way to use up any leftover fruit that you have and I … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {15th July 2016}….
1) I had to buy the last of Master Frugal's new school uniform this week and although it's pretty hard to save money when most of it is compulsory, I did manage to save a little bit. I have no idea why he needs both a short and long sleeved top along with a hoody but I was a good parent and bought them all along with the school socks! I drew the line at the shorts and the tracksuit bottoms as the PE teacher told me that he'd never wear the tracksuit bottoms and any shorts were OK as long as they were black. He has a pair of black nike shorts that he's going to wear and a pair of plain black … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {1st July 2016}….
1) I've finally finished my garden table and chairs which started out as a tatty set that we've had for the last few Summers. I bought some Valspar garden paint from B&Q and painted the table and two benches with that pot and then I bought a few of the tester sized pots to paint the chairs. I might be biased but I think it looks amazing! The paint goes on really well and much better than the tin of paint I bought from Cuprinol which I bought in Ivory originally to do the chairs. It just wouldn't cover the first chair despite a couple of coats which is fine as it was a dark wood … [Read more...]
Small things that make me smile {June 2016}….
Even though I've not been too well for the last couple of weeks (just a virus that's dragging on - nothing dramatic ;-)) we've still had another really lovely month with some great moments that have made me smile.... The first one I'm going to tell you about today is the text Miss Frugal got this morning from one of her friends as she was getting ready for a school visit to spend the days with some monks at a monastery. Her friends seems to have not read the letter too well as she woke up this morning gutted to find out she was going to visit monks and not monkeys! She only realised it was … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {10th June 2016}….
1) When my Nana died I was quite heavily pregnant with Miss Frugal so I wasn't really in a position to help when it came to clearing out her home although I did take a couple of things of hers to keep as memories of her. I took a pretty battered looking big metal spoon which she used to use for her baking and a Forever Friends fridge magnet that I'd bought her years before - the spoon is used regularly in my own kitchen now and the fridge magnet is on the front of our knife block where I see it every day. The final thing I brought home with me from her house that last day was some small square … [Read more...]
