(OK, there is a slight possibility that I *may* have lied about it being easy) 1. Know your monthly budget First things first, you need to calculate your monthly budget (you can use my free printable budget planner if it helps) and work out how much money you have left over at the end of the month. Then you can identify where you need to cut back and also have a better idea of how much money you have left over at the end of each month. 2. Stick to your monthly budget Next you need to get the hang of staying within your budget. If the money you should have left over doesn't match what … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {12th June 2015}….
Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. We finally got around to having a car boot sale (you can read all about it here) and considering it was quite windy and we were mostly selling Miss Frugal's junk things I actually think we did really well. Everything that we didn't sell went straight to the charity shop so I'd call that a frugal and de-cluttering success!2. This one involves a bit of a white lie so please don't hold it against me ;-)As I mentioned last week, Miss Frugal wanted a room makeover because she wanted her room to be a bit more grown up. We went to B&Q … [Read more...]
An (almost) live blog of today’s bar boot sale experience….
One of my most popular posts on here is all about how to make money at a car boot sale so when we decided to have a car boot sale this weekend (following a mass de-clutter) I thought you might like to hear about how we prepared for our car boot sale and how it went.Three days before Bday (Boot Sale Day).... Check the weather on my phone and see that the sun is due to be shining. We're definitely doing it!Two days before Bday.... Is that a cloud I see on the weather app? We're not doing it if there's a chance of rain. The day before Bday.... 10am - No rainclouds showing for … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {5th June 2015}….
Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. I've been wanting to visit the South Lakes Zoo for ages as we've heard some great things about it but it's a good few hours drive away from us so we've never actually made it there yet. Every now and again though I do have a quick search to see if there are any deals around to get the entry cheaper as that would help convince Mr Frugal that it would be worth the long drive. I managed to find a great deal this week which offers entry for the four of us plus some animal feed for each of us for the bargain price of £15 which seems like a great deal … [Read more...]
What to do when you have an ‘I don’t want to be frugal’ moment….
Being frugal and thrifty isn't always an easy choice is it?We all have times when there's something that we really want that isn't very thrifty or money saving and we need a bit of a pep talk to help us remember why we choose to be frugal. Here's three things that help me to when I'm wavering.... I remind myself why we started to live more frugally in the first place For us it started because I wanted to work part time so I could spend as much time as possible with the kids while they were younger. Once we'd made the necessary adjustments for that drop in my wages, we started to do … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {29th May 2015}….
Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. Contrary to popular belief, I'm planning on making more than just mojitos with the mint in my new little herb garden (actually mojitos was my plan but Miss Frugal had other ideas). So this week, we've made mint lemonade which I'll be sharing with you at some point over the next week and after that was a success we even made blueberry version. It tasted delicious - even more so because we made it with our own mint!2. The kids and Mr Frugal headed off to Wembley on Monday to watch their beloved Boro play in the Championship play off. They … [Read more...]
