A little while ago I started to share my meal plans over on my meal planning blog - Meal Planning Made Easy but it felt a bit boring just writing our my meal plan on a Monday as a list so last week I decided I was going to do things a different way. So for the last week or so, I've been posting a picture of our tea along with a recipe or some pointers on how to make your own version!I'm going to keep doing that this week but I wanted to post on here to tell you about it in advance because this week's meals have a bit of a theme going on - they're all going to be made using the 'by … [Read more...]
A Rainy day doesn’t have to be a stuck in the house day….
All week, I've been hoping forward to a lovely sunny weekend so I could make some inroads into the overgrown mess that is currently our back garden. Clearly it wasn't meant to be though because I got up this morning, pulled open the curtains and was greeted by a cloudy grey sky instead of the sunshine I wanted! So now that I have a gardening free weekend stretching ahead of me, I decided to have some fun with the kids even though I think were secretly hoping to spending the weekend being lazy and playing Minecraft.Last Summer I wrote a post about our favourite thing to do when it's … [Read more...]
Having a T20 Blast….
Last Thursday we were invited to pop along to Durham Cricket ground to watch the Durham Jets play a home match in the T20 Blast series. If I'm honest, I wasn't particularly excited about this as I had no idea how to tell the difference between a stump and a wicket (still don't actually) or how to tell a four from a six (that one I do know now) but Mr Frugal was quite excited when he heard it was a T20 Blast match and not an actual cricket match - he assured me that these matches were shorter and more exciting than traditional cricket matches. The kids were really excited too although … [Read more...]
Seven quick ways to make money….
I've not been around much in the last week or so, mainly because last week was the half term holidays for us and we were busy, busy, busy with hardly any time to sit still for five minutes let alone actually take time to blog! Now that the kids are back at school for their last half term before the Summer Holidays, I'm starting to plan for what we're going to do when they're off which inevitably makes me wonder how we're going to pay for what we'll be doing. Don't get me wrong, we'll be doing lots of cheap and free things but when a trip to the cinema can cost £30 upwards and a day out at … [Read more...]
The difference a year makes….
I wrote the title of this post at the end of last week and I was going to write a bit of a philosophical type post inspired by this quote that some lovely sent me:But then we had a lovely weekend away and I realised that there's no point dwelling on things I can't change, no matter how much I'd like to. So I decided not to write the post I was going to write and instead you have two lovely photos taken a year apart at Knowlsley Safari Park (more on that later in the week). They might not look any different to you but to me they've changed massively in the last twelve months - … [Read more...]
Games to play in the car together….
If I’m honest, my usual plan of action, when I know we have a long car or train journey ahead of us, is to charge up all things electronic, dig out the headphones, get the kids to choose a book each and add a pillow or two to the back seat – that usually keeps the kids quiet for a good few hours, which makes for a happier journey all round. But last week we had a slight trauma when we realised just before a three hour journey that I’d forgotten to charge everything up and I hadn’t even remembered to prepare our usual car journey things. The children were mildly traumatised at the thought … [Read more...]
