Today, I’m going to share with you how I make a Slimming World friendly family meal plan.
So, you probably know by now that I love a good meal plan and in the past, I’ve shared our weekly meal plan on here along with a bit of insight on why we’re eating what we’re eating that week.
I then started sharing our weekly meal plans over on my Meal Planning blog and more recently, I’ve been sharing our plans over on Instagram. For the next month or so, I thought it would be nice to bring them back over to this blog so we can really focus on it.
I’ve been running down my freezer in preparation so there’ll be some batch cooking going on, some new budget family meals tested and hopefully, lots of money saved along the way.
First up, let me share this week’s meal plan with you:
Monday
We’re kicking off the week with homemade pizza – mainly when we had a hot day last week we changed our plan and had BBQ burgers in buns instead of macaroni cheese at the last minute. This means I have a pile of grated cheese in a Tupperware box in the fridge waiting to be used up.
I can get Master Frugal to make the pizza dough before I get in from work and as long as I remember to take out the homemade tomato sauce from the freezer before I go to work then I can literally throw them together when I get in from work using some tinned pineapple and shredded chicken from the freezer as toppings.
Slimming World friendly version – I’ll probably make a Slimming World version up by using a wrap as the base and making a Slimming World Pizza but if not, I might just use some of the tomato sauce as a sauce for some spaghetti.
Tuesday
Homemade fajitas are on the menu tomorrow night which over the next month, you’ll probably see on here a lot. That’s because it’s one of the meals that Miss Frugal can cook really well and I’ve been trying to get the kids to get more involved in the cooking since my commute to work extended. It’s super easy to cook and I can literally leave her to it and know that we’re going to sit down to a lovely meal that everyone can enjoy.
I tend to join her at the end to make the homemade guacamole that we always have when we have fajitas.
Slimming World friendly version – Schwartz Fajita seasoning is syn free anyway so we just use that as the fajita seasoning. We use peppers, red onion and chicken in the fajitas so with a HEb WW wrap and some cheese from my HEa allowance I enjoy exactly the same as everyone else here. The only difference is that I don’ t have the guacamole and I’ll probably have some Total Greek yoghurt as a topping instead of sour cream.
Wednesday
If the weather reports are to be believed, Wednesday is going to be a warm one with no rain forecase so after our last minute switch out of macaroni cheese last time we had hot weather, I think I’m just going to plan for burgers and wedges so we can get the BBQ out. That means I’ll defrost the two packets of buns that we bought yellow stickered (9p for a pack of 6) and cook some chicken burgers and maybe make some homemade burgers in my burger press. I’ll pop some sweet potatoes in the Airfryer to make wedges while the burgers are cooking on the BBQ (this is the one we have – it’s kind of a BBQ ;-)).
Slimming World friendly version – I have a burger press so I can use some 5% fat mince and a wholemeal bun from my Heb for my burger and the wedges would be Slimming World friendly anyway as I tend to use Frylight to coat them before I cook them (I also add a little spice too). Add the usual salad bits and bobs and I’ll be enjoying my mini BBQ with the rest of them. If I have a chance, I might even make some spicy bean burgers.
Thursday
I’m going to make campfire stew for tea tonight which is basically beans, shredded gammon, peppers and onion all cooked together in the slow cooker for the day. I really want to try it in the Instant Pot though so if that works then I’ll share the recipe with you next week sometime.
Slimming World friendly version – the beauty of this is that I don’t need to do anything differently to make it Slimming World friendly. It’s perfect just as it is.
Friday
I have a feeling that I’ll be pretty much wiped out by the time Friday comes around and that I’ll be in the mood for a takeaway but I also know that as soon as I order one, I’ll wish I hadn’t. I know I’ll want something super easy for tea tonight though so I think I might get Miss Frugal on the case making our fakeaway chicken chow mein recipe.
Slimming World friendly version – This is another one of those meals that everyone enjoys which is great for Slimming World as it’s just 1 syn in a serving,
Saturday
Our new usual Saturday night meal is Instant Pot rice which is kind of a hybrid between Risotto and Paella. It’s amazing and so flexible as you can flavour it with whatever herbs and spice combination that you fancy. I will get around to sharing the recipe for this one of these days – I just need to get a good photo first. I’ve been trying for the last few weeks but it always looks like mush and with it being a Saturday night, I just want to be sitting down enjoying it rather than faffing with photos. Here’s one of last week’s so you can see what I mean….
It doesn’t look particularly appetising, does it? It tastes amazing though so I need to make it again and take some nice photos before I can share it with you.
Slimming World friendly version – This is another one that is completely Syn free so we can all enjoy it exactly as it is.
Sunday
I’m going to do a Sunday roast and try making some Slimming World style roasties and Yorkshires which I’ll share with you if they work (bear in mind that they failed spectacularly last time though so I wouldn’t hold your breath).
Slimming World friendly version – If my roasties and Yorkshire puds work then we’re on to a winner as I’ll just serve slow cooker gammon or chicken with them and a big pile of veggies. I’m not overly bothered about gravy personally so I’m good without it.
That’s our week of evening meals all planned!
Next weekend, I’m going to try and do some batch cooking which should be fun. 😉
