I originally posted this over at Frugalicious Food but I didn't want you guys to miss out so I've added it here aswell ;-) I used Smilebox to make a recipe card for this recipe but I haven't decided if I like it yet, although it is quite good if you wanted to print it off to keep like I often do with recipes I find online. What do you think? … [Read more...]
Chocolate Cupcakes with Nutella Frosting….
I think I may have just secured the Mother of the Year Award, for Miss Frugal's Christmas party at school tomorrow I've made chocolate fairy cakes with Nutella icing. They looked very Domestic Goddess-like until I let her loose with the sprinkles! Because I'm a lovely person, I'm even going to share the recipe with you so you can impress your kids too.... Nutella Frosting 250g icing sugar 80g butter / margarine 75ml milk 90g Nutella (slighly melted - 30 seconds in the microwave does the trick) Because I'm lazy, I used an electric whisk to mix the butter and the icing sugar into a … [Read more...]
Easy Homemade Shortbread Recipe….
Note to self: Don't play Guitar Hero while shortbread is cooking! We love a nice easy recipe here in the Frugal house so when I came across a super easy looking recipe for home made shortbread that uses just 3 ingredients I knew it sounded like one for us.... They turned out yummy, although I was playing Lego Guitar Hero on the Xbox so I missed the oven beeping so a few of them are a little bit, erm crispy ;-) All you need is 125g butter, 50g sugar and 175g plain flour. Cream the butter and the sugar together and then add in the flour, I used my electric whisker thing because I was … [Read more...]
Just like your Mum used to make….
Hi, my names Cass and I have a cook book addiction! When I get a new cook book, I hide it on top of the fridge until the kids have gone to bed, then I pour myself a nice chilled glass of wine, turn the TV off, lock the door and settle down to spend some time getting to know the new addition to my little cook book family. I read it from cover to cover, turning each page slowly, while imagining myself in my own kitchen preparing and serving the delicious creations that I'm reading about. Then, when I'm finished, I place it lovingly on my cook book shelf where it stays forevermore, … [Read more...]
Baking on the Edge….
English Mum is hosting a Bake Off and all month I've been meaning to bake something spectacular that would wow everyone with my Domestic Goddess-like skills. I was going to make my yummy, moist carrot cake or some lovely rich chocolate brownies that would guarentee to having you bowing to my superior kitchen prowess. However, the reality is that I left it till the last minute and I've ended up baking a plain old chocolate sponge cake, I've tried to make it look a bit fancier by adding some whipped cream and sprinkles ;-) So, Ladies and Gentleman, I present you with a chocolate sponge … [Read more...]
Pizza Smiles….
It's now officially half term which means that 'Operation: Family Fun Half Term' is officially underway. (By the way, that's the kids name not mine - I'm geeky but not that geeky lol) We've got loads of activities planned for this week and I've managed to put in a few days holiday from work so I'm looking forward to spending lots of time together.... I asked the kids this morning what they wanted to do today and Master Frugal asked if he could do some baking with me, which was fine as I love baking with both of them but he likes to do everything himself so I try and choose really … [Read more...]
