Last week I had to scan some receipts so I could claim back some expenses so off I headed to the garage (our printer/scanner is in the garage as I like it tidy and out of the way) but it wouldn't turn on for some reason which wasn't particularly convenient as I was already late sending the receipts off.I poked the scanner a bit, turned it on and off and did what anyone with my level of technical knowledge would do - I sighed dramatically and stormed back into the house!I then had a bit of a whinge on Facebook (as you do) and someone suggested that I just download a scanning app!Why … [Read more...]
15 ways to save money on your weekly shopping spend….
Over the course of a month, our shopping bill is one of our biggest expenditures. It's one of the few variables in our budget because how much we spend over the course of a month depends entirely on the meals we plan each week, how well we stick to our meal plans and how many treats and extras we buy when we're shopping. We set ourselves a realistic monthly food budget so we're lucky that we can afford to go over it every now and again but it's really important that what the money we do spend is spent wisely. Here's my top tips to save money on your grocery shopping....Meal plan, … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {30th October 2015}….
I always find it hard to be frugal and thrifty when the kids are off school but this week's been easier than usual as it's been a bit of a chill out week for the kids and we haven't done much at all.1. First of all I have an update to one of last week's five frugal things. I went to Tesco and Asda on the night that I got the sofa as I was so excited … [Read more...]

Over the past few years the slightly American tradition of Elf on a Shelf has become more and more popular here in the UK and every Christmas my Facebook and Instagram timelines are full of naughty little elves getting up to all sorts of mischief. If you've not heard of Elf on a Shelf then you're probably wondering what on earth I'm on about ;-)It's basically a tradition where you have a family elf who comes to visit on the 1st December and stays up until Christmas Eve when Santa will take him back home with him. The elf is supposed to be keeping an eye on the kids and making sure … [Read more...]
Could you live without TV?
In the past I've always said that Sky TV was something that we would happily pay for - it was our little luxury and we were OK with it seeing as we don't drink, smoke or go out very much!I can't remember exactly how much we used to pay for our Sky package but I think it used to be around £70 a month for the full package including the movies and the sports. We recently changed to Virgin Media and saved a fortune by taking our phone and broadband with them and getting a cheaper package without the sports or the movies. The sports channels are no big loss to anyone apart from Mr Frugal … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {24th October 2015}….
I usually sit down on a Friday afternoon after work and have a good think about what I've done that week to try and be more frugal and thrifty that's interesting enough to be included in that week's Five Frugal Things post.I didn't get chance last night though as I was too busy doing number 1 on my list, so I'm a day late but here's my five frugal things for this week....1) I got a new settee which is usually not very frugal but this one was given to me by my Dad as he bought it for himself not long ago and has now decided that it's too big for his Living Room. It's immaculate and … [Read more...]
