I know that I've mentioned the NHS Minor Ailments Scheme briefly in the past but over the last week or so I've seen lots of people on social media talking about it and sharing posts relating to it. Almost every single time it's shared, someone comments to say they've never heard of it and how they want to find out more so I thought it would be worth revisiting it again today. What is the Minor Ailments Scheme Basically, the Minor Ailment Scheme is an NHS service for people who don't pay prescription charges which would include all children and people on certain benefits and with specific … [Read more...]

I have clearly failed as a parent….
I try and teach my children about how to be financially responsible and I until yesterday, I was secretly a little bit smug about how well I was doing. After all, Miss Frugal has a debit card and manages her money really well and Master Frugal does a great job of saving his weekly pocket money for something he really wants rather than wasting it.But then yesterday, Master Frugal said something that completely wiped the smug smile off my face (and also made me laugh that hard that I nearly spat my drink out, but's that's not the point). "When you leave school, how much money do you get … [Read more...]
How to make a beautiful bow out of leftover wrapping paper….
When I give a present to someone I like to spend time choosing a present, think about what I know the person I'm giving it to will enjoy. And because I spend time on choosing the perfect (in my opinion ;-)) present, I like to make sure that it looks as pretty as possible when it's all wrapped up and ready to give.In the past, I would pop to the supermarket and buy a pack of wrapping paper to match the occasion along with a more often than not expensive matching bow to go with it and occasionally some ribbon if I wanted to really make it look nice! Present wrapping certainly wasn't cheap … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {15th May 2015}….
Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. Miss Frugal has a bit of a weakness for Lush bath bombs, which are far from frugal at £3+ per bomb. She often asks for them for Birthday's and Christmas and regularly spends her pocket money on a treat for herself. She bought herself one a couple of weeks ago and she's been saving it for just the right time which was apparently Wednesday night.I knew she was using it in her bath as I could smell it from downstairs but what I didn't know was that she had decided to cut the bath bomb in half with a knife so she could have two baths with it … [Read more...]
Where do you draw the line with saving money on your food shopping….
If anyone asks me the first thing they should do to start saving money, I always without fail tell them that the absolute first thing to start with is to look at their food shopping habits.Meal planning is a must for me but I need to make sure I'm organised in order to do that successfully and make sure that our shopping budget is as low as possible, while still making sure that we eat well.I make sure that I plan our meals for the following week before I go shopping and that I use food that we already have in where possible to keep my shopping bill down. To make sure I get everything … [Read more...]
Wednesday’s Wardrobe – Why it pays to have patience and shop around….
Welcome to this week's Wednesday's Wardrobe!Wednesday’s Wardrobe is a weekly linky that I'll be co-hosting along with two fantastic bloggers, Emma and Sarah and Miss Frugal especially is really enjoying working on these posts together each week.In the last year or so, I've developed a bit of a love for all things Orla Kiely which doesn't necessarily sit well with my frugal side. I think her designs are beautiful and I spent most of last year drooling over some of her bag designs and going backwards and forwards between really wanting to treat myself and realising that there was better … [Read more...]
