I try and teach my children about how to be financially responsible and I until yesterday, I was secretly a little bit smug about how well I was doing.
After all, Miss Frugal has a debit card and manages her money really well and Master Frugal does a great job of saving his weekly pocket money for something he really wants rather than wasting it.
But then yesterday, Master Frugal said something that completely wiped the smug smile off my face (and also made me laugh that hard that I nearly spat my drink out, but’s that’s not the point).
“When you leave school, how much money do you get to start?”
He’s now more than a little disappointed that I’ve just explained that real life isn’t like the Game of Life and you don’t get given money at the start!

Hahaha this is cute. Not at all a mommy fail, don't be discouraged! Money is such a complicated concept for kiddos to understand. It will come with time and when they get it, they will be sad to find out it is not all fun and games with freebies for passing go and such. 🙂
Aww bless, that is so cute. I hope things turn out that way when he school. The truth is hard x
Perhaps that is where the government is going wrong. We should give the kids an amount of money to start their own business!
He was thinking, where does money come from, that is the first step. Next step he will learn where and how to get it.
Oh that really made my day, how cute was that, if only it was real. Bet he was disappointed when he found out the truth.
Hi Cass, that made me laugh. I teach teens who when asked, what they will do for money when they leave school reply that their mum/dad will just give them money, yeah right !
Ha ha, bless him! How disappointing for him. 🙂
Oh bless him! If only, right? x
No money for passing Go either? Don't fines go into Free Parking? Surely a House in Mayfair costs £400?
what a total sweetie
