Sundays have always been my favourite day of the week, mainly because that’s always been the day that we make a conscious effort to set aside some time to do something as a family – whether it’s a day out, a movie afternoon or even just a walk in the woods with the dog or a game of football on the beach.
These family Sundays have become even more important to me now that the kids are older as it can be difficult to spend quality family time together through the week as everyone is often busy doing their own thing and even a family meal can be difficult to manage sometimes.
Since my operation last October, we’ve neglected our family Sundays a little bit and I’ve really felt the loss of them and the way we’ve always come together no matter how busy we are. So when Robinsons asked us if we fancied a Thirsty Fun Day bowling in York we decided to use that to kick off our family fun days again now that I’m pretty much back on my feet.
I took a little bottle of Robinsons Squash’d with us on our Thirsty Fun Day as we have done on many days out and weekends away over the past year or so, since I discovered them – super-concentrated portable squash, with real fruit in every drop. The bottles are so small that they pop in my handbag yet each one makes 20 servings of juice which has no added sugar and is free from artificial flavourings and colours.
Miss Frugal is a big water drinker and drinks more than enough every day but Master Frugal just isn’t as keen which means I have to do what I can to make it more tempting for him. A quick squirt of this juice makes a bottle of water instantly more appealing for him and encourages him to drink more.
I know I mentioned this in a Five Frugal things post last Summer too but I also take it along with us when we go away somewhere because even though you can drink the tap water at most hotels we’ve visited, it does often taste different to what we’re used to which puts both kids off drinking it. By having a bottle of this with us we can add it to the water and the kids drink it happily which saves us a fortune on buying drinks.
We were all really looking forward to our day as it genuinely seems like ages since we’ve done something like this and even the car journey was fun which in itself was a small miracle as the kids have taken to sitting in the back with their headphones on for any journey over 10 minutes!
After a couple of sat nav led wrong turns and a drama on a roundabout, we somehow managed to arrive at TenPin York with plenty of time to spare and were pleasantly surprised that we could start bowling more or less as soon as we got there, despite being half an hour early. Our local bowling alley wouldn’t have been able to do that as it’s always ridiculously busy with super long waits if you haven’t pre-booked.
Honestly, we had so much fun and it was a pretty close match….
You can tell we had fun because the kids willingly posed for photos which hasn’t happened in quite a while! 😉
