Miss Frugal loves to watch Dragons Den with me and always has her own opinions on whether the dragons should or shouldn't invest in a business. She's usually pretty sure that she has an idea that the Dragons would love to invest in so I decided to see what she could come up with and while we were at it, Master Frugal and I had a go aswell. Invention OneI love this one. The black square is our kitchen window and it's connected to a box on top of the Guinea Pig hutch with a little chute that we use to pour food into the box - this will only need to be done about once every four weeks … [Read more...]
Colourful Crayons….
We love making colourful crayon cakes, they're fun to make and when they're done, they're even more fun to draw with. To make your own crayon cakes, arrange broken crayons in some paper cake cases like we've done below (we tend t use cheap silicone cases and keep some just for this but paper works just as well). If you're feeling particularly creative you can arrange them in to coordinating colour schemes, last time we made these, Miss Frugal made one using a heart shaped silicone mould case and just pink and red crayon bits which was gorgeous and almost too pretty to draw with.If … [Read more...]
Gloop – easily the best science experiment we’ve done at home….
When I read about Chris' adventures with Gloop over at Thinly Spread, I thought it looked perfect for us, so I wrote it down somewhere in one of my many notebooks on one of my many 'Things to do with the kids' lists. Miss Frugal reminded me of it last week when I bought her a Science Experiment book and she wrote me a list of ten experiments she had seen in there … [Read more...]
How to get the most out of the Summer Holidays….
Most of us are a couple of weeks into the School Holidays now and if you're kids are anything like mine, the novelty of lazing round the house and playing out has started to wear off.I spend the first two weeks of the holidays at work so it was up to my dad to entertain them most days and to be fair, he did a great job with trips to the beach, the park and even a day trip to Edinburgh but now I have a couple of weeks off, they have high expectations that we're going to be doing something different every day. Being the fantastic mother that I am (or is it more just because I'll take any … [Read more...]

Cooking With Kids – Homemade Ice Lollies….
I know it's been a while but I've decided to bring back the Cooking With Kids linky and we're kicking it back off with homemade ice lollies, which I know don't technically class as cooking but you make them in the kitchen and you eat them which is good enough for me and to be honest, I could do with a bit of inspiration so I'd love as many people as possible to join in so I get lots of yummy homemade ice lolly inspiration in time for the Summer.... We made our ice lollies with powdered strawberry milkshake which we made according to the instructions on the pack and added a few more scoops … [Read more...]
