Have you ever wondered how to cook a whole chicken in the slow cooker? To be honest, I probably don't need a whole post to tell you how to cook a whole chicken in the slow cooker, I could probably fit everything you need to know in a tweet. ;-)But seeing as we've just polished off our Sunday dinner made up of slow cooker chicken, Yorkshire puds and veg I thought I'd tell you how I cooked our chicken today. Before I do though, I will say that this isn't my favourite way to cook chicken because it literally cooks it so melt in your mouth soft that it tends to fall apart when you … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {10 August 2018}….
Every week I share five frugal things that I've done during that week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life. Before I start though, I do want to say that being frugal to me is about getting the best value for our money - it's not about doing without for us or about not having nice things. We all have different financial situations and we're all frugal for different reasons - we're frugal so we can afford to do nice things together.1) My favourite way to start these posts on a Friday … [Read more...]
How much is too much when it comes to vet’s fees….
Our puppy Monty is an absolute menace and as much as I love him, there's no doubt that he's much harder work that our older dog, Buddy and so far, we've had more visits to the vets in his first 9 months or so with us than we've had in Buddy's 9 years!Just to give you some background, we have pet insurance where most things are covered but we do have to pay an excess on each claim. We haven't made a claim yet as all of our treatments have been below the cost of the excess so I wouldn't know how easy it is to actually make a claim. We also pay our vets £16 a month per dog which gives … [Read more...]
Basic Quiche Recipe – perfect for using up leftovers….
My basic quiche recipe is one that I learned from my Mam way back when I used to look forward to her baking days which would always consist of the same things - quiche, corned beef pie and a random cake recipe that she would choose from her Be-Ro cookbook each time.My basic quiche recipe is an adapted version of my Mam's, mainly because I don't make my own pastry.I don't do the whole homemade pastry thing usually for a couple of reasons - 1) ready made pastry is about a million times easier for me and b) it's way less mess and c) there are never enough hours in the day for me as it … [Read more...]

Please Read before using essential oils….
I wrote this post this morning as I was just writing up my homemade linen spray recipe to share with you next week and I realised that every essential oils post I've written in the last couple of years has some sort of disclaimer attached to it about how you should always use essential oils with care. I thought it would make life so much easier if I just had one post to link to with everything I want to say about what you should consider when using essential oils. So, I love using essential oils for the various DIYs that I make to use around the house but I do always feel like I … [Read more...]
