I currently work part time in a good job that I love with people that I enjoy working with. That's good, right? I'm also lucky enough that I can finish by 2.30 most days and be home to pick the kids up from school and spend time with them after school. That's not just good, that's amazing isn't it? The fact that I get the best of both worlds means my work-life balance just about as perfect as it could be during term time but it's a whole different story in the Summer Holidays when it's not as easy to be smug about it all (not that I'm openly smug - just internally ;-)). It takes a … [Read more...]
My Week {19th July 2015}….
Phew. I am just sitting down now for what seems like the first time in a week! We have had an amazing start to the Summer Holidays and have taken full advantage of the fact that we all have a rare week off together by filling every day (except for Wednesday as you'll see below) with adventure and fun! Rather than tell you about what we've been up to, I'm going to show you this week by sharing a week's worth of Instagram photos.... I'm back at work on Monday so it's going to be a much quieter week next week and I'm not even sad about going back to … [Read more...]
Cooking with Kids – Fruit Kebabs….
Tesco recently asked us to take join in with their great 'Cookalong' project which is all about getting kids in the kitchen this Summer - an idea that I wholly support! We were given a few recipes to choose from and we picked the fruit kebabs because (a) we love fruit and (b) we often get cheap fruit reduced at the supermarket which would be great for this recipe. Here's the video that Tesco made to show you how to make these delicious fruit kebabs: Miss Frugal decided to make the kebabs herself and banished me from the kitchen although I managed to sneak in a quick photo of the … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {24th July 2015}….
Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. I bought some back to school stationery today in Tesco as it was half price. I even managed to stock up on the pens that you can rub out (an essential piece of kit according to Miss Frugal) as well as some packs of school pencils reduced from £3.60 a pack to just £1.50. I've cleared a drawer in the unit to store them until just before they go back otherwise there's be no trace of them come the start of September! 2. We're going away this weekend and the thought of the usual arguments over how we get there almost drove me to buy a sat nav … [Read more...]
Don’t forget to make time for YOU these Summer Holidays….
We're five days in to the Summer Holidays here and I'm exhausted! I asked the kids to write a quick list of things they wanted to do over the Summer Holidays and I've tried to cram a lot of them in this week as I'm off work with them all week. Not that it matters if we don't get them all done as I'm off again in three weeks for a fortnight and I'm home by 3 o'clock on most days when I'm working but still, I wanted them to have as much fun as possible with me while I'm off work this week. What that does mean is that we've had lots of fun together but I haven't had much time for me and if … [Read more...]
My Week {19th July 2015}….
I've consciously tried to slow life down for us all this week after the slightly frantic pace of the last few weeks because it's become more and more obvious just how tired the kids are right now - one night they both came in from school and one went for a lie down while the other fell asleep on the settee! It's only to be expected I guess as we've been doing so much with all of the end of term things going on and thinking about it, it seems worse than the last few years as they're in different schools now so we have two lots of everything to go to. I almost booked a cheeky week away to … [Read more...]
