Every week I share five frugal things that I’ve done during the previous week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.

Hey!
1) Let’s start today with a nice bargain flowers post, shall we?

I bought two bunches of tulips for 96p each reduced from about £4 a bunch I think and they look fantastic on our dresser in the dining room. 🌷🌷🌷
Tulips are my favourite flowers so at 96p a bunch, there’s no way I was just getting one bunch!
Also, looking at that picture of the tulips has reminded me about our place mats which we bought from Denby (#SaveDenby) a little while ago. I love Denby and I love that their place mats are sold in sets of six rather than four which means that we don’t need to buy two packs. 😁 These were half price with an extra 20% off as they were classed as seconds due to a dodgy box.
2) I am currently the Queen of Facebook Marketplace and have so many listings on there at the moment that you wouldn’t believe.
I’m trying to clear space rather than make money so I’ve been listing it quite cheaply or in lots of cases if something doesn’t sell in a couple of days at the cheap price then I’ve just been making it free to collect to get rid of it.
My favourite thing that I had listed was a big tub of stones that I had selling for £10. It was a big tub that was left here by the previous owners and I think they were arranged around the little fountain we have in the garden at one point but the fountain isn’t working at the moment and even if it was, I think we’d probably do something different so we decided to get rid of the stones.

I listed them for £10 originally and someone came for them within an hour but he underestimated the amount that we had so he took what he needed, gave us the £10 and left.
I took a new photo and relisted what was left for £10 and someone came that afternoon and paid £10 but again didn’t want them all so he took about half of what was left and paid another £10.
Then I re-uploaded the stones again, reduced them to £5 and sold the last lot to someone who came the next day.
Madness.
3) Did you see my post about how we’re overpaying our mortgage?
One of the ways I mentioned that was helping us to do this was using an app called Sprive and this week, we transferred £15 over to our mortgage account. Not a huge amount but it will reduce the mortgage balance by £15 which, over the course of our mortgage will save us around £20 in interest so will reduce the balance by around £35.
In isolation, it’s not a huge amount but if we do the same every month then we would have paid around £3,705 in total which would save just over £2000 in interest which reduced the mortgage by 7 months just by spending as we normally spend.
That’s significant to us, especially when this is just one way that we’re overpaying.
4) We knew we had inherited a rhubarb plant in our new garden but I hadn’t thought much about it until this last week as neither of us like rhubarb.
But this week – she grew….

It felt like our one little rhubarb plant was taking over the end of the garden and I really didn’t want it to go to waste so we messaged one of our friends who has an allotment and invited them to come around and help themselves to the rhubarb.
Apparently it’s quite a good one so not only did they take all of the rhubarb, they also said they would dig up the plant and re-home it in exchange for as many tomato plants as we could fit in our garden.
Such a win, especially as we were planning to grow tomatoes this Summer.
5) I’ve started sowing rocket seeds every four weeks or so because I love the idea of having a little continuous supply growing rather than buying a bag from the supermarket, using half of it and then finding the rest has gone sad and soggy in the fridge two days later.
Rocket is one of those things that feels like it makes a meal look a bit fancier with hardly any effort at all. A handful on top of a homemade pizza, mixed through a salad, scattered over pasta or even just added to a sandwich makes such a difference. It’s also really easy to grow, so I’ve been sowing a small amount at a time instead of planting loads all at once and ending up with more than we can use.

My plan is to keep sowing little batches every few weeks so there’s always some coming through. It’s such a small thing but it should save a few supermarket spends over the summer and means we get fresh rocket whenever we need it. Plus, there’s something very satisfying about popping outside and picking something I’ve grown myself.
There you go, hope you enjoyed seeing what I’ve been getting up to this week!
