Every week I share five frugal things that I’ve done during the previous week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey! 👐
I’ve got a couple of batch cooking wins to start this week’s post…
1) I used some cooked broccoli left over from our Sunday dinner and made some cheese and broccoli egg cups in the airfryer. I used eight eggs and made eight egg cups which were then all batched up ready for lunches through the week.
I added some chopped cherry tomatoes and a handful of grated cheese and they tasted amazing!
2) Last year, I bought a cheap gas weed burner to help me battle the weeds in our front garden.
We have an absolute nightmare of a weed in our garden – something called horsetail which is super invasive and pretty much impossible to kill off no matter how much we’ve tried.
No weedkiller touches it and pulling it up makes zero difference as it grows back in no time at all so last year, I decided it was time to bring in the big guns and I bought a gas weedburner (like this one). It’s far from a miracle cure for the horsetail but burning the weeds does reduce the regrowth significantly.
It was a battle though and last Summer I think I spent a good ten minutes every day burning the regrowth after the initial few days where I spent a couple of hours clearing the majority. It was a battle and then the growth reduced significantly in September and then died down completely by the start of October and as you’d expect, it’s been super quiet until now.
This week the shoots started appearing which made me want to scream a little bit!
On the plus side, there’s less new shoots than there were last year so I’m hoping that this Summer’s battle will be easier than last years.
My gas weedburner was a bargain at £14.99 and has stopped me having to buy countless weedkillers that promised to destroy my weeds and gives me a real way to control my weed problem without spending a fortune.
3) My second batch cooking triumph of the week actually prompted me to share a post earlier this week about ways to save money in the supermarket!
I walked to Tesco on our little high street to buy some ground almonds to make my low carb airfryer pancakes and found a pack that was super expensive – I think it was £5.85. I had a look on my phone at trolley.co.uk to see how much I could get a pack for elsewhere.
I found one that Asda do one for £1.42 which is obviously for a smaller pack size but it still works out quite a bit less per 100g and I really only need a smaller pack as I don’t make then very often.
4) This is a super basic one but…
You can’t beat line drying for freshness and it saves money on the tumble drier so it’s money saving too.
I washed our bedding just after these clothes and I swear that line dried fresh bedding is the best thing ever – new bed feeling is my favourite night of the week!
5) I spent two hours last Monday listing some stuff on Vinted after a big clear out last weekend. We have such a lot of stuff combining two houses worth of belongings into one and clothes were one of the things we both had way too many of.
I had drawers filled with clothes that no longer fit for one reason or another – some don’t fit my body, some don’t fit my life anymore and some just don’t fit me as a person anymore so I got rid of anything I wouldn’t wear again and anything I hadn’t worn in about six months.
I went through everything and made three piles – bin for the stuff that was marked or damaged in some way, Vinted for the good stuff and charity shop for the rest.
I won’t go into how to sell on Vinted as I’ve done that before (many times probably) but I will tell you that it’s super easy to do and even though you’ll never make a fortune, I do know that it’s a way to make a little extra money out of things you don’t need or want anymore.
I won’t ruin the surprise as I have a post planned on how many things I ended up listing in that time and how many things actually sold but it was worth it considering I wouldn’t have been doing much else on Bank Holiday Monday.
So, there’s this week’s five frugal things – I hope you’ve all had a happy Frugal week!
