Story cards….

After the fun we had making and playing our Razzle Dazzle board game we decided to try our hand at another game tonight.  We decided to make a story telling game as Miss Frugal is learning about descriptive words at school this week and I thought this might help.

We made the story cards by cutting some A4 Sheets of card into quarters.  Next we cut some images off the front of my birthday cards from last week, things like a butterfly, a sheep, a pig, some flowers and a loveheart and then glued an image on to each piece of card.
We didn’t have enough pictures for all of our cards so we drew some pictures on the rest of the cards.  We drew a castle, a tiara, a princess, an orange, a tree, a beachball and some other very random things.  Altogether we made about 20 cards I think.
The kids arranged them upside down in a large circle on the floor and plonked themselves in the middle of the circle ready to play.  Mr Frugal and I played too but there was no way we were fitting into the circle so we played from the comfort of the settee.
The idea of the game is that everyone is telling a little bit of the same story, when it’s your turn you have to turn a card over and tell your part of the story incorporating that picture into it.
Here’s an example of part of one of our stories (I say one of them as we ended up playing about a gazillion times), I’ve put the pictures we chose in red:
ME – Once upon a time there was a little princess and a little prince, they lived in a big castle with their mummy and daddy.
MISS FRUGAL – One day the prince and princess fancied an apple but there was only one left.
MASTER FRUGAL – And then there was a cat and the cat came along and nicked the apple.
Mr Frugal: So the prince and princess ran after the cat to try and get their apple back.  They chased him all the way to the beach where they forgot about the apple as they had an ice cream and played with a beach ball they found.
I won’t bore you with the full details about the rest of the saga but I can tell you it was like a soap opera, the prince and princess were shrunk after eating a magic orange, got chased by a sheep wearing a tiara and recused by a butterfly before eventually finding some magic flowers that made them big again.
I was surprised by how much fun we had playing this game and we are already planning lots of new additions to the story card pack.
