Every week I share five small things we’ve done to save a bit of money, make life easier or help us spend more intentionally.
None of them are usually huge on their own, but that’s kind of the point. Those small choices add up over time and give us more room for the things that really matter — whether that’s days out, holidays, home projects, treats we’ll actually enjoy or just a bit more breathing space in the budget.
This week is a special edition as we’ve had a few days away after our trip to Butlins last week – we booked a very last minute trip to Ibiza for a few nights and we’ve had such a lovely time!

We’re not usually the type to go on holiday and lie in the sun around the pool all day but we thought we’d give it a go as we only had a few days so we booked a trip to Ibiza! 😎
It was definitely one that we needed to do on a budget as we hadn’t planned on it and actually only booked it a couple of days before we left for Butlins. To make the most of the time we had, we actually booked it to leave the day after we got home from Butlins which meant a very quick turnaround between the two trips.
Totally worth it if you ask me – life’s too short to regret not booking the trip. 😁
1) We got a brilliant deal on the holiday itself
Booking late definitely paid off because the price of our holiday was reduced by more than £300 per person by the time we booked it. That’s a huge saving for two of us and made the all-inclusive option even better value for us.
I also booked through TopCashback so we’ll get a little bit back on top of the saving we’d already made. I’ve said this so many times over the years, but I always try to remember to check TopCashback before booking anything online because it takes seconds and, if I’m going to spend the money anyway, I might as well get something back.
We used Top Cashback when we booked our car parking at Manchester Airport too so between the two purchases, I should get around £30 back which isn’t bad at all as it took me seconds to do. I don’t even have to think about it as I have the browser extension on my laptop which prompts me every time I am on a site that is part of Top Cashback.

2) We didn’t hire a car
We thought about hiring a car as we usually do but decided against it, and I’m glad we did because we really haven’t needed one. We deliberately chose this holiday because we wanted to relax rather than spend time driving around trying to see everything but I was definitely apprehensive before we went about being stuck in one place.

That wasn’t the case at all though -we saw everything we wanted to although it was so hot that it wasn’t a long list of things! For the places we did want to visit, we used the little resort train or the bus instead which worked out much cheaper than paying for car hire, fuel and parking.
3) We’ve made the most of our all-inclusive
It would be really easy to book an all-inclusive holiday and then spend a fortune eating and drinking elsewhere, especially when you’re somewhere with lots of lovely restaurants and bars around you.
We’ve still gone out and explored, but we’ve tried to plan around meals at the hotel wherever it made sense. If we’re heading somewhere later in the day, we’ll eat before we leave rather than automatically buying another meal while we’re out, and we’ve made good use of the drinks that are already included too.

We paid for the all-inclusive package, so it made sense to actually use it rather than paying twice for food and drinks.
4) We packed brilliantly
I’ll hold my hands up and admit that I’m really not very good at packing and there’s usually something I’ve forgotten by the time we arrive. I once managed to pack plenty of tops for my partner for a weekend away but absolutely no change of bottoms. 😂 Luckily it was only a weekend, but it’s now one of those stories that gets brought up every time we’re packing for a holiday!
This time though, I somehow did pretty well – especially considering we had so little time to actually pack. The only thing we realised we’d forgotten was a pack of playing cards, which cost us about £2 to replace. Considering how expensive it can be to replace forgotten toiletries, sun cream or clothes once you’re in a holiday resort, I’m definitely counting that as a frugal win.
5) We haven’t spent money just for the sake of doing something
This is probably the biggest one for me because I’m not naturally very good at doing nothing.
Usually when we’re away I want to be out exploring, finding places to visit and generally making the most of every minute, but that can get expensive very quickly. This week we’ve spent a lot of time by the pool, reading, people watching and generally just relaxing.

There have definitely been moments where I’ve thought we should go somewhere simply because we’ve been sitting around for too long, but then I’ve reminded myself that sitting around was pretty much the whole point of this holiday. We don’t need to spend money every day just so we can say we’ve done something.
We’ve still had some lovely trips out and seen more of Ibiza than just our hotel, but we’ve also had whole chunks of time where we’ve done absolutely nothing and spent absolutely nothing.
I’m still not very good at doing nothing, but I’m definitely getting better at it. 😁
Back to normal next week – see you then.
