I’m going through a massive de-cluttering phase at the moment and the kitchen is definitely the biggest job. Honestly, you should see my cupboards now – let alone before I started the mammoth task of de-gadgeting my kitchen!
Here’s my ten gadgets that I can absolutely live without….
A Quesadilla maker
I’m not even joking when I tell you that Mr Frugal bought me this for Christmas a few years ago because HE loves it when I make Quesadillas.
A cupcake maker
Yes, I know. Waste. Of. Money.
It was a bargain buy though as it was reduced to something like £3!
An electric steamer
Takes up lots of space and actually, the steamer I have that just slots over a pan is just as good with less washing up afterwards.
Slice and Go thingamajig.
Absolutely love this little gadget but really, I have two children that I could force to grate my cheese couldn’t I? On the plus side, it does mean that I’m now famous for my outstanding coleslaw!
An electric tin-opener
That’s just lazy. 😉
An electric knife
Apart from looking like some sort of deadly weapon, I can’t see any benefit to an electric knife if you keep your knives sharp. Most knife blocks have built in sharpeners so they sharpen when you slide them in and out.
A garlic crusher
Why not just peel your garlic and whack it with the back of your knife or even the bottom of a cup. Much, much easier to clean and more space in your cutlery drawer.
A citrus reamer
Another gadget taking up space in your cutler drawer when a fork would do just as good a job!
A soup maker
I would LOVE one of these but at the same time, I regularly make lovely tasty soup with the £4.79 hand blender I bought from Tesco a couple of years ago so with that in mind, I guess I don’t actually need one!
A smoothie maker
A faff to set up and a nightmare to clean AND it takes up valuable space in the cupboard under the sink where it’s lived since I was given it. I haven’t met a smoothie yet that can’t be made with my cheap hand blender that I use for soup!
And the five that I could never be without….
My Airfryer
I can’t tell you how much love my Airfryer – I use it for everything. I cook everything from quick chicken nuggets and fries tea to bacon and chicken breasts. I cook burgers in it and even fish in those nifty little fish bags. It’s my kitchen hero!
My Slow cooker
What’s not to love about a slow cooker – it’s so easy just to fling everything in on a morning, turn it on and the tea’s ready by tea-time!
My Kenwood mixer
I love this although it probably could have gone in the live without section but I love it so much that I’m putting it down here instead! Perfect for mixing just about everything from cakes to Yorkshire puds.
My cheap hand blender
This blends my soups perfectly and for under a fiver I’m amazed it’s such great quality.
Tassimo
I love, love, love my Tassimo machine although I don’t drink coffee. It makes the nicest hot chocolate and the fact I can have a Chai Latte at home is fantastic!
What’s your can’t do without gadget in your kitchen?
Disclaimer: Just because I said I could absolutely live without the first ten doesn’t mean that I’m actually willing to live without them. I have de-cluttered some of them but not all 😉

not so long ago i had a declutter in my kitchen! out went small george forman! electric fryer now that did take up space. Juicer used once ! most used gadgets in my kitchen.Slow cooker and smoothie maker, thinking now about outing that as takes valuable space and taking you advice of using hand blender for soups as well as u can guess just me to cook for and hand peeler wouldnt be without .
Great post. An electronic tin opener would be good for someone who is disabled (hand problems) but not for able bodied people. I like my Kenwood blender.
My fav kitchen gadget is def my stick blender. Great for soups, curries, smoothies and so much more! Although I have a new Tefal Optigrill on the way… watch this space!
we love our tassimo, i dont actually drink coffee but the hot chocs are delishious and hubby loves it x
I don't do much cooking, so I guess my thing would be my electric hand whisk that I use to make cakes. x
I agree with you ojn the airfryer. I wouldnt be without mine. I think I am going to have to do a list oif my own
Haha great! i love my slow cooker too and would be amiss without it. x
Well I'm amazed at your commitment to the cause and equally amazed that you have that many gadgets at home! I absolutely cannot live without my slow cooker. Love, love, love it!
Great post! I have a waffle maker that's taking up too much space. I'm thinking of using it once more over Easter then sending it to waffle maker heaven. As far as essentials go, my Magimix food processor gets a lot of use chopping blending and juicing. And I think a mixer is pretty essential for cakes. I am lucky enough to have a Kitchenaid mixer which looks beautiful, but before that I had a £5 hand mixer from Asda which did a pretty good job too.
Ooh, an airfryer?!! what is that? I will google it in a sec. I'm thinking it is a machine to cook chips healthily?
Unfortunately my kitchen is tiny, so no new products for me. The breadmachine and my kenwood mixer already have to rotate in and out of a cupboard.
I have a mandolin that is a waste of time. I may aswell just chop veg on the chopping board, and not risk accidental finger amputation every time I cook!
Tee hee, so funny. I actually don't have any of your first 10 items, but I do have a cake pop maker that I couldn't definitely do without (it's been used twice). Slow cooker is definitely on my shopping list, watch this space 🙂 x
Haha, I'm actually intrigued about that quesadilla maker! My go-to gadget is most definitely my peeler – boring I know, but who has the courage to brave peeling a potato or carrot with a knife? No thank you, I don't risk my fingers each time I cook 😉
Couldn’t do without my rice cooker (we eat mostly Asian
food). Like my breadmaker and yogurt maker a lot since
our house is so cold in winter you can’t make bread
rise or yogurt set.
Never owned a microwave and have never wanted one!
Waste of £ gadgets for me were solar oven thing (cant remember name of it!) bread maker & bread slicer which i bought cos 2 members of the family are coeliac but the bread is just gross!
Love my soup maker, we have a mad busy sporting saturday & its just so quick & easy to make for lunch & self cleaning too! Also love my cupcake maker which i use for savoury muffins for lunchboxes. They dont keep long or freeze great so i think why bother putting the huge oven on for a big batch.
Funny isnt it…one mans treasure…
I have four out of your five must haves, and actually only one of your can live without items. My kitchen is still cluttered though
I couldn't do without my breadmaker, its the best investment ive ever made as a kitchen gadget. You cant beat fresh bread and I know others will say its easy to do by hand, but the convenience of the machine is unbeatable x
Love this post!!
I have to agree with each and every one of your 5 that you couldn’t live without. I have them all and they are also my top used kitchen items! I love a tassimo coffee when the twins nap, and the chai latte is soooooo yummy 🙂
As for the 10 that you can’t live without I have got a steamer which I use when I’m doing a lot of veg but yes it takes up sk much room and make loads of washing up! But I do love my garlic crusher 🙂 xx
