Last weekend, Miss Frugal and I headed to the Festival of Thrift in Darlington for a bit of girly time while the men of the house watched the football. If you've haven't had the pleasure of visiting the Festival of Thrift before then I strongly recommend trying to get there next year because we had an amazing day! The first Festival took place in 2013 and welcomed 27,000 visitors, and last year which was our first year visiting saw a massive 40,000 visitors visiting. I've no idea how many went this year but it felt bigger than last year so I'm guessing even more than last year! Here's … [Read more...]
Colourful Quick and Easy Vegetable Risotto….
Anyone who knows me will know that I'm all for easy recipes and if it's an easy recipe that's both cheap to make and healthy to eat then that's all the better. This recipe for vegetable risotto ticks both boxes so I thought you might like it as much as I do!My version of vegetable risotto is not only budget friendly, healthy and packed with veg, it's also made using ingredients that you'll probably already have in your kitchen! Colourful Quick and Easy Vegetable Risotto (makes 2-3 good sized portions) 1 tablespoon oil 150g Arborio rice 375g mixed veg (frozen is fine and actually ideal … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {2nd October 2015}….
1. I've up-cycled a cake board into a memo board this week which saved me throwing away the cake board! You can have a read about how I did it here if you fancy having a go yourself.2. We're now into our second week of feeling under the weather but I'm pleased to say that we have (almost) stuck to our meal plan which is no mean feat when you have as little energy as I've had this week! There was one night when I replaced what we had planned for dippy egg and soldiers because I just couldn't face cooking (or actually leaving the sofa for more than two minutes to be honest) but for the … [Read more...]
How to plan an amazing family holiday on a budget….
One of my favourite things to do when I have a few minutes spare it planning a holiday for my family - I'm already working on next Summer's as we all have two week's off together for only the second time since the kids started school! As you probably know, part of the reason I started writing this blog is so that we can have a record of my kids’ lives throughout their childhood that they can treasure and look back upon when they are adults. While I love to save pennies and quid on groceries, delicious recipes, technology and clothes shopping, I also want to share the lovely experience … [Read more...]
How to make a memo board from an old cake board….
Miss Frugal turned 13 recently and a very lovely person made her the most amazing Birthday cake.....It was perfect and believe me, it tasted every bit as good as it looks and every single bit of it was edible apart from the cake board that it was sat on, which brings me to the subject of this post!I really didn't want to throw the cake board in the bin as that seemed like an awful waste, especially considering the £3.68 price sticker that was stuck to the underside of the board! I'm not a cake baker myself so I knew it had no chance of ever being used again as a cake … [Read more...]
How to avoid the sneaky data drain on your iPhone….
Do you have unlimited data on your iPhone? If you don't then you really need to read this post as I've just been told about a cheeky new feature that's used more of my data in a couple of days than I usually use in a week!I only found out about it because I mentioned to someone at work that my phone seemed to be using much more data than normal since I updated it and they told me that Apple added a new feature called WiFi assist in the last update.Basically, WiFi assist means that if your WiFi strength isn't great then your phone will switch seamlessly from WiFi to using your data … [Read more...]
