I’m all for a good store loyalty scheme but when I found out that the new Tesco Clubcard PLUS was going to be one that I would have to pay for, I was more than a little shocked.
To me, a loyalty card is about a store rewarding me for shopping with them, not me paying them so my first thoughts about the Tesco Clubcard PLUS were absolutely not happening.
I’ve since done a bit more research and it does look like it could pay for itself for some families, including us. With that in mind, I thought I’d share with you today why we may actually sign up for the monthly subscription.
What is the new Tesco Clubcard PLUS?
The new Tesco Clubcard PLUS is the next level version of your normal Tesco Clubcard. It’s going to involve a monthly subscription which you’ll pay for the pleasure of being a VIP Tesco Clubcard PLUS holder but in return, you’re going to get a couple of benefits that *should* save you more than your monthly subscription.
What benefits do you get with the new Tesco Clubcard PLUS?
Because the new subscription scheme hasn’t launched yet, the details aren’t all out there but initially, it looks like you’re going to get 10% off two ‘big’ shops a month which means that you’ll make your £7.99 back with two shops of £40 – I spend more than that easily in a weekly shop so this is where I start to like the sound of the subscription. You could also potentially plan your shopping so you do a bigger shop twice a month with all of the more expensive things being bought in the shop where you’re going to save the 10%.
You’re also going to get 10% off the Tesco own brands all of the time apparently which could be a big saver if you’re a fan of buying their clothing range which I absolutely am as I don’t think you can beat it for quality, price and range.
If you have a Tesco mobile deal then it looks like you’ll also get double data with them too which could be a great deal. I’m not sure on this one though as we’re all with EE and I think we have a pretty good deal with them so I wouldn’t necessarily count this one as a benefit for most people – certainly I’d shop around before signing up with them to get the double data when that much could be standard with another company. Hope that makes sense. 😉
The last thing that they’re trying to push as a benefit is the fact that they’re offering a credit card with no foreign exchange fees abroad to customers who pay sign up to the Tesco Clubcard PLUS. I’m not convinced that this is a good deal though…

How much is the new Tesco Clubcard PLUS going to cost each month?
It’s going to cost a whopping £7.99 a month but if you’re clever, you’ll save more than that with some of the Tesco Clubcard PLUS discounts that you will get if you sign up.
Is the new Tesco Clubcard PLUS worth it?
For me, I think it will be just based on the fact I’ll get 10% off two shops a month and a further 10% off their clothing ranges. I’m going to wait until it’s released properly and will probably sign up for a couple of months and just monitor to see how much money I do save.
It may not be worth it for you though so definitely weigh up the benefits before you think about signing up.
