We don’t have much of a back garden in our new house but what we do have is a lovely front garden that runs the length of the house and ever since we first viewed the house, I’ve had so many plans for it!

Unfortunately, life had other plans for me for the first month or so of us living in the house as I’ve been either waiting for my operation or recovering from it so I’ve been very impatiently waiting until I can get out there. 😁
One thing I have been able to do is to start setting up our little bird corner which I’ve been looking forward to setting up since before we had the idea not long after we moved in.
Our living room has a gorgeous high bay window that looks out on this patch of garden…

The main things we can see when we look out of the window are two Japanese Acer trees on either side of what I think is a Hebe bush which needs a bit of a trim. There’s also some lovely plants in the borders but the Acers and the Hebe are what you can see from every seat in the living room.
We have plans for each area of the garden and this little section was always about being pretty – we wanted to maximise the view from our living room window in this area and had loads of ideas on how to do that running through my head on all the different ways we could do this.
But it wasn’t until the day after we moved in that we decided exactly what we were going to do in that space.
The decision was made when we spotted a little robin in our garden which made me smile as I always think of that poem ‘When robins appear, loved ones are near’ when I see a robin and this is probably the first time that I’ve spotted one in my own garden so when this one appeared in our new garden right after we moved in, I took it as a sign.
We wanted to encourage this little robin to come back and hopefully bring his friends so the idea for the Bird Cafe was born. 😁
I bought a bird feeder hanging station which is perfect as it looks lovely in front of the window and gives me lots of space to hang different feeders to encourage different birds to visit us. It wasn’t expensive at all and took about five minutes to put together and position it in the garden where we wanted it in front of the window.

I bought the bird mugs last year from a boot sale specifically to make homemade bird feeder mugs as I spotted them and thought they were perfect – they were about 50p for two if I remember rightly and there’s cute little drawings of lots of birds that you could spot in your garden so they’re perfect for this!
we filled the two mugs with the same mix of bird seed and fat that I’ve been using for years in my homemade bird feeders and got them hung out on the bird cafe station.

I added in some extra bird feeders – one peanuts and one suet pellets and the bird cafe was officially open for business.
Our friendly robin was the first bird we spotted on there which made me so happy but honestly, he can’t have liked the food on offer as we’ve not spotted him at all in the last two weeks! I’ve done some research and I think they’re more fans of meal worms so I’ve ordered a meal worm feeder that promises to bring all of the robins to visit!
We do have a steady stream of other visitors in the meantime though – mainly blackbirds who are backwards and forwards all day long. 🐦⬛
I’m doing well after my operation and am ready to start getting out in garden to do a bit more so watch this space for the expansion of the bird cafe and updates on more of what I’m doing in the garden.
