I am so excited to finally be able to say WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!
I’ve mentioned it very vaguely on here a few times in the last six months but never really gone into too much detail as we started this whole stressful house moving process last July and until the day we moved, I never fully believed that it was actually going to happen.
It took over eight months from us viewing the house we now live in to getting our keys but now we have got them and we’re moved in, I am so happy to finally be able to say that we now live in our dream home.
I’ll be honest though and say that it’s absolutely not everyone’s dream home as it needs a lot of work. A lot.
And even that is probably underselling the amount of work that needs doing.
It’s a double fronted Victorian house with some lovely original features that we fell in love with when we first viewed the house even though it was filled with about fifty years worth of family life and had some clear issues that went way past just a refresh of the decor. And seeing as I mentioned decor, I suspect that the last time it was decorated will have been before my children were born. 😁
But we loved it despite that, probably because of that if I’m honest.
Because we know that we can restore this house, room by room, and turn it into our forever home.
I’ve always picked houses because they were sensible choices that were right for wherever I was in my life and despite moving five times so far in my adult life, I have never felt an emotional pull to a house – until we viewed this house last July.

This is the exact spot that I stood in on the day we first viewed the house, and it’s actually the photo I took on the way out of the house that day.
I could see the living room on the right and the dining room on the left and before I took a step into either room, I knew that I wanted to live in this house. Luckily, I could tell my partner felt the same. 😍
That feeling grew as we walked around the house and by the time we got to this spot upstairs, we had both made the decision that this was the house for us.

It took about six weeks from that point to agree a sale on our home (it wasn’t even up for sale when we viewed this house so I’m so thankful it sold so quickly) and by mid-august, we had our offer accepted on this house and we had high hopes that we would be in for Christmas.
It wasn’t meant to be though, for a couple of reasons – partly because I haven’t been well since October and I haven’t always been the quickest whilst I’ve been waiting for my operation but it was mainly because of our buyers solicitor who we ended up having to make a complaint about. Mid February, we said that we were going to pull out and just re-market the house and within days, we got a call from our solicitor to say that we could complete and exchange all on the same day.
We got the call on the Thursday morning and were told that our moving day would be the following Tuesday!
It took us so long to get here but now that we’re here, it feels like a dream.
We have a plan to do a quick refresh of the rooms, fixing all the urgent bits and then we’ll start again and really bring each room back to life, one by one.
We have original sash windows, beautiful floor boards under the carpets, original fireplaces and random rooms that don’t yet have a purpose so it’s not going to be a quick fix-up but it is going to be fun. ❤
