Last month I shared my top tips on how to avoid odd socks.
Not the most exciting of topics to blog about admittedly but fairly necessary after the mysterious sock fairy visited us again and left yet more odd socks to add to our ever-growing collection!
My best tip was definitely to buy multi-packs of identical socks because if you buy a multi-pack of seven pairs of exactly the same sock, each sock has 13 potential buddies not just the one! This means that if we do happen to lose one (or three) then it’s no biggie as there’s plenty of others to take its place.
But odd socks or even holey socks are pretty much inevitable at some point aren’t they? And what do you do with your unwanted socks? I hope you don’t throw them away when there are so many other uses for them. I wouldn’t exactly call it up-cycling but still, there’s lots of other uses for your socks….
Make a hand duster – perfect for getting the kids (or you) to dust the TV cabinet or the sideboard.
Wash the car with them.
Use them as filling for a draft excluder.
Make a sock puppet.
Use them to polish your shoes.
Make a draft excluder with a difference – a snake sock!
Make tumble drier balls.
What else can you do with odd socks (apart from put them in the drawer anyway in case their partners turn up at some point)?
Thanks for sharing this. I love wearing Funny Socks . It looks so cool!

The kids ones are great to turn into iPhone cases! …And if you don't think they're cute enough to be pulled out of your bag, they're still great covers for in a bag pocket – no scratches & less risk of smashing when they fall on the floor – which they ALWAYS do at some point!
Never though of using them as dusters – great idea!
I've seen a link today to make owls out of odd socks and they look lovely, I'm off to gather ours up!
What a great idea but then you could wear then odd and set a new trend. 🙂
I am a thrower I have to admit, I havent got the time to sew them and I have no small people to make puppets for x
We never put them to the bin. As I only buy cotton socks, the odd one or the tired one are always used for cleaning and polishing
Great ideas for spare socks
we have endless amounts of odd and worn through socks. I don't know what my children do to them! Sock puppets are our favourite.
I always seem to have odd socks!
I like the idea of a drafty door snake and I have just the sock for the job one of my stripy long socks , still have no idea where the other one went. we currently have a carrier bag full of other odd socks but I also have a ten year old boy who seems to love wearing odd socks.
We make sock puppets and my son loves them, he thinks they're hilarious 🙂 x
Ah we use our odd socks to polish shoes and boots!
