I’m loving this little Small Wins series because it’s all about the tiny habits that make life feel easier without adding anything overwhelming to your week.
Each post is just one small, realistic action that saves money, reduces waste or helps you feel a bit more organised. And honestly, this time of year feels perfect for simple wins that take minutes but make a surprising difference. 😀

This week’s small win is ridiculously easy – all I want you to do is choose one thing from the back of your cupboard and plan to use it up this week.
That’s it. One item.
It could be a tin you forgot you bought, a bag of pasta you opened ages ago, a packet mix you meant to try, or that random ingredient you picked up because it was on offer. We’ve all got at least one cupboard mystery that’s been patiently waiting for its moment.
By choosing just one thing and using it up, you’re:
reducing waste
saving money on this week’s food shop
clearing a tiny bit of space
and giving yourself a quick “I’ve sorted something” win
Sometimes that single forgotten ingredient can spark a whole meal idea. A tin of tomatoes becomes a quick pasta sauce. A lonely pack of rice becomes a side dish. Even a tin of fruit can turn into a simple pudding.
It’s not about transforming your cupboards overnight. It’s just one small, gentle step towards using what you already have… and that adds up.
If you do this, let me know what you end up rescuing from the back of your cupboard. Mine was a tin of chickpeas that somehow migrated right to the back and hid there for months and I made it into a cheeky little chickpea curry using a pack of frozen Mayflower curry sauce that was lurking at the bottom of the freezer. I added some onion and peas from the freezer and it was actually OK. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t the best meal I’ve ever cooked but I did enjoy it. 😂
I hope your cupboard meal is more exciting than mine!
And while you’re in the cupboard, pull a few more bits to the front so they are used up over the next couple of weeks too.
Join me next week for the next Small Win in the series — another tiny habit that’s easy to do and saves you money without any extra effort.
