Miss Frugal and her friends love Starbucks and whenever they go shopping, they usually pop in for a round of iced caramel Macchiatos and Marshmallow Twizzles. Now I don't usually object to what she spends her pocketmoney on but when she's paying £1.19 for three marshmallows on a stick covered in chocolate then I have to say something!Rather than tell her not to spend her money on them anymore, I decided to make my own and show her just how much of a profit Starbucks were making on each one they sold (yes, I know I'm not taking into account any business overheads but I'm proving a point … [Read more...]

My can’t do without Blogging Tools….
People often ask me how I manage to fit in everything that I do blogging wise when it's not my full time job and usually when they do, I look at them and reply 'I just do' because I don't know what else to say.Maybe the fact that it's not my full time job and I'm not reliant on the income that blogging often brings helps me because I still get to do this for fun which means that I still love blogging but without the obligation as I don't feel pressure to earn money from it (although that's nice). It could also be because my children are a little older at 11 and 14 so on an evening when I … [Read more...]
3 cheap perfumes that smell like posh ones….
I don’t know about you but I’ve always been pretty loyal when it comes to perfume – I tend to wear Tommy Girl in the Summer and Gucci Rush in the Winter with a bit of Joe Malone Honey Blossom and Nectarine when my budget allows.Because of my fragrance brand loyalty, Mr Frugal has a pretty easy time as far as Birthday, Anniversary and Christmas presents go and I usually have a constant supply of my favourite perfumes.Miss Frugal, who’s recently discovered a love of perfume, doesn’t have the same brand loyalty when it comes to perfume and she smells different every day thanks to her ever … [Read more...]
Who needs a Sat Nav when you have your phone….
Last week, I shared my new discovery with you all, an app that you can use as a scanner, and this got me thinking that there must be lots of other things that can be replaced by an app these days.Looking through my phone, I have a few apps on my phone that replace something I used to have so I thought I'd share a few of them with you, starting with the most useful app I think I have on my phone - Waze. Now I know I mentioned this app a few months ago in one of my weekly ‘Five Frugal Things posts but having used it again last weekend, I’ve decided it needs a post all of its own!I’m not … [Read more...]
Save money like your Grandma used to….
You might have seen in my Five Frugal things post last week that I taught Miss Frugal how to mend a hole in her trousers. This is something I thought would be the first thing they would teach in her sewing lessons at school but no, she can cover a notebook in fabric like a pro but they haven't got to the part where they learn actual life skills yet!It seems a bit like basic skills that our grandparents took for granted have been forgotten about. Things like sewing can be looked at as being a bit old fashioned which is a real shame because it can save money and give you a feeling of … [Read more...]
