Over the years, our water bill seems to have got progressively higher and I think I accepted the increases thinking that it was something I had little control over. Don't get me wrong, I did a few of the obvious things to reduce the water we use (no hosepipe use, only washing a full load, no dishwasher, water saving devices in the toilets are the main changes) but it never really made much of a difference to the amount we were charged on our bill so I just continued as we were and accepted that our bill was always going to be a bit higher than I would have liked it to be.Then … [Read more...]

Why you should ALWAYS trust your instincts as a parent….
I mentioned briefly in last Friday's five frugal things post that Master Frugal had suffered a concussion and wasn't doing too well but things took a nasty turn on Saturday so I thought I'd give you a bit of an update - more to keep my mind off things as I'm currently sat next to his bed in hospital while he sleeps and as we’re now on day 4 I am really, really bored as well as being super tired. So, last Thursday he tripped over his shoelaces at school and banged his head. He didn’t think much of it at the time but he started to feel sick at lunchtime and by the end of the school day he … [Read more...]
How much is too much when it comes to vet’s fees….
Our puppy Monty is an absolute menace and as much as I love him, there's no doubt that he's much harder work that our older dog, Buddy and so far, we've had more visits to the vets in his first 9 months or so with us than we've had in Buddy's 9 years!Just to give you some background, we have pet insurance where most things are covered but we do have to pay an excess on each claim. We haven't made a claim yet as all of our treatments have been below the cost of the excess so I wouldn't know how easy it is to actually make a claim. We also pay our vets £16 a month per dog which gives … [Read more...]
A quick life update (and a new blog) from me….
I don't think it's much of a secret that I've struggled a little bit these last few months.Admittedly, I've had a fair bit to cope with but it's fair to say that I probably haven't handled things as well as I could have done and trying to carry on like I did when my Dad died without stopping to grieve just got me to a place where I was exhausted, snappy with everyone I love and behind with just about everything in my life.Things are much better now so I thought I'd give you a little bit of an update...I kept so busy after my Dad died that my house was spotless, I had a good … [Read more...]
Our half yearly budget review….
Every six month's or so, we sit down and do a full-on review of our monthly budget review which I usually share a bit about in my weekly five frugal things post but this time, I thought I'd do a whole post about it.Before I start though, I would say that our budget is looking good right now but it's taken years to get to this point from where we were when we started our frugal journey and I'm super proud of us! The healthier our budget starts to look, the more encouraged we are to be frugal and to save even more money because we have a goal in mind to pay off our mortgage in half the … [Read more...]
Garlic Roasted Cherry Tomatoes….
Today I'm sharing my new favourite recipe - Garlic roasted cherry tomatoes!I briefly mentioned in last Friday's Five Frugal Things post that I was going to share this recipe for garlic roasted cherry tomatoes with you today and I actually had two emails over the weekend asking for a sneak peek which was lovely and I was happy to share as the recipe was needed for a batch cooking session and a BBQ so today would have obviously been a bit late for both ladies. ;-)I think I said in my post that the tasty garlic roasted cherry tomatoes would be great on a pizza, amazing stirred through … [Read more...]
