Saving money isn't just about the big savings you make, it's about the little things you do each and every day that save you money. In fact, my Nana used to have a saying which I'm sure lots of you will have heard - "Look after the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves!"It's so true isn't it?So here's my five small things that I've done this week to save some money:1. Rather than go to the shop for something for my work packed lunch when we ran out of bread (don't ask) I made up a packet of cous cous that's been at the back of my cupboard for as long as I … [Read more...]

Our five favourite free family activities to do at Christmas….
Christmas is probably the easiest time of the year to keep children entertained for free because there's so much going on for them. Even the most basic activity can be made more exciting by adding a bit of a Christmas spin to it ;-)So with just over a week to go, I thought I'd share with you our five favourite free things to do at Christmas:An obvious one but our favourite thing at this time of year is to spend time together watching Christmas films. Am I correct in thinking that it's OK to talk about Christmas now that the Coca Cola advert has been on TV ;-)I hope so, because with just 38 days to go, I've got lots to say, I'll try and keep most of my Christmas mutterings confined to the OneStopChristmasBlog but very often every now and again I'm not going to be able to help myself!Like today for example, we're using today to have a bit of a pre-Christmas clear out as we do every year around this time and I'm going to try and make some money with our things to go towards our Christmas fund.I find it much easier to clear our the … [Read more...]
Five ways to make going back to school stress free (and save money at the same time)….
Going back to school doesn't have to be stressful and it doesn't have to cost you a fortune. Honestly ;-)Don't worry! Easier said than done I know but don't worry about every little thing. It doesn't really matter if you have enough shirts or enough pairs of trousers. Trust me, the shops won't suddenly stop selling uniform as soon as they go back to school so you've got plenty of time to … [Read more...]
#SummerofFrugalFun – how to make a children’s Treasure Hunt….
Today we've been making a treasure hunt for Mr Frugal when he comes in from work and it took me back to the ones we used to do for the kid when they were younger. We haven't done one for ages though so we thought it was time to sort that out! We're starting with one for Mr Frugal - mainly because he's not in at the minute so clue writing and hiding is much easier but also because we haven't seen him in a week as we've been away so the kids wanted to do something for him as a surprise.Obviously, the idea of a treasure hunt is to follow a series of clues that will ultimately lead you … [Read more...]
