We're five days in to the Summer Holidays here and I'm exhausted!I asked the kids to write a quick list of things they wanted to do over the Summer Holidays and I've tried to cram a lot of them in this week as I'm off work with them all week. Not that it matters if we don't get them all done as I'm off again in three weeks for a fortnight and I'm home by 3 o'clock on most days when I'm working but still, I wanted them to have as much fun as possible with me while I'm off work this week. What that does mean is that we've had lots of fun together but I haven't had much time for me and if … [Read more...]

Stay organised and save money this Summer….
As always, we're counting down the days to the Summer Holidays this year (19 sleeps for us) and we can't wait for the freedom that the holidays always bring - no early mornings for the kids, no school, no homework, no early nights and even better than all of that is the three weeks holiday I have coming up!I don't know about you but in the past we've tried to fit so much in to our time off that we've been exhausted rather than refreshed by the time September comes around! Last year was a bit different for us though as we tried to have a bit of a lazy Summer which meant that, although we … [Read more...]
When a big company takes advantage of a young girl….
I'm used to companies targeting their advertising to my children but this week a large company has taken advantage of Miss Frugal and made her feel uncomfortable in one of their branches and that is unacceptable.I'm not going to name the company as that's not really my thing but I am going to share her experience because as a parent teaching a child about money management, this is something that I hadn't expected or considered so we'd never discussed how to deal with situations like this.I pay Miss Frugal's pocket money into her debit card account each week and she has a debit card so … [Read more...]
Decorating on a budget: Quick Bedroom Refresh….
At the start of this year, I challenged myself to get all of the little jobs done around the house that have needed doing for ages but never seem to get done and to decorate one room or do one 'big job' (to us it seems big anyway) every month. We don't have a huge budget so we're trying to do things as cheaply as possible and get as much for our money as possible. So far, we're not doing too badly - we did Master Frugal's bedroom in January, the Living Room in February (no major changes though) and a giant garage clear out. In March we had a mini makeover in our bedroom which is what I'm … [Read more...]
A beginners guide to batch cooking – 10 top tips to help you get started…..
Today's post is dedicated to my new favourite thing - Batch Cooking.Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to be one of those die-hard batch cooking people who spend a whole day every month batch cooking meals to last them for the next four weeks but I do want to take what I already do one step further now that I have a little more freezer space than I had before.I'm going to consciously cook more foods that I can double up on so that I can gradually build up a stock of meals in the freezer and I'm hoping to gradually up my game a bit and find more recipes that are freezer friendly and … [Read more...]
Treat yourself to some ‘me’ time on a budget…
As much as I don't like the ever increasing commercialism of Valentines Day, I do actually like the day itself and the idea behind it. We never spend a fortune on gifts and we don't bother with cards but we do buy small gifts for each other and I always buy the kids something silly too!Around this time over the last few years I've written about how to be a cheap date and how to keep your romance alive on a budget and I've also shared my top 50 frugal date ideas with you but this year, I thought I'd share something different with you. This year, I want to focus on ways to love yourself … [Read more...]
