What to do when the heating isn’t working….
After my experience with our central heating breaking down last Friday night, I can confirm that it isn't a pleasant experience to spend 24 hours without heating in the company of two sniffly children, a whingey husband and a dog who hates the cold!I did learn a few things from my experience though and I thought you'd be grateful for my little pearls of wisdom so you'll know exactly what to do when the heating isn't working in your house.First of all, hot chocolate can pretty much stop all whinging immediately so make sure you always have some in your cupboard. Squirty cream and … [Read more...]
Teaching children the value of money….
I don't think that schools do enough to educate our children about money or if they do, they don't start it young enough in my eyes because neither of my children have been taught much about money at school so far and they're eleven and eight. We've had the numeracy based questions for homework that ask thing like 'If I bought 3 apples for 10p each how much change would I have from 50p' but they haven't learned anything about money in the real world which I would have hoped (but not expected) would have been covered at some point - at least for Miss Frugal's year six class.Children need … [Read more...]
Seven ways to appreciate what you have at Christmas….
This time of year, more than any other, makes me realise just how lucky I am.I could focus on much loved family and friends who are no longer with us or one of a number of things that are on my mind right now but instead I'm choosing to think about the good things in my life because they massively outweigh the things that make me sad!I have a lovely family with children who amaze me and make me proud every day, a good job which I am lucky enough to only work part time hours at, a lovely home near the sea and some fantastic friends - both on and offline. Lots of people don't have that … [Read more...]
Saturday Night Family Fun ideas (without watching X Factor or Strictly)….
As much as I enjoy watching the X Factor (I know you all do secretly), I tend to find that it can take up most of our Saturday night because by the time we've watched it, it's bedtime for the kids and usually too late for us to watch a film or anything as Mr Frugal is usually up early for work on Sunday. So this year, we're not going to watch X Factor or Strictly (or if we do we're going to Sky Plus it and watch it through the week together) and we're not even going to have a Saturday night movie night with popcorn like we usually do when X Factor isn't on. We're going to do something … [Read more...]
Get Organised – Organise your Chargers….
Today I'm a woman on a mission. Not a particularly important mission, it's not like I'm going to save the world or anything but I am going to tackle a problem that's been annoying me for months - I'm going to find a way to organise the million charges that we have.We have chargers for phones (four of them), an ipod touch, our Kindles, two tablets and two cameras and we're struggling to keep them neat and tidy at the moment so I've been trying to think of a way to organise them.My first idea worked really well for us for ages. I keep two of the USB plugs plugged in … [Read more...]
