It's been a while since I've written a siblings post so after yesterday's slightly miserable post, I thought I'd share some happy moments with you today. ;-)I used to join in with the Siblings project every month and it was always one of my favourite posts to write because it reminded me how close Miss and Master Frugal were, despite the inevitable petty squabbles they used to have. I stopped joining in because the abundance of photos I used to have to choose from dwindled away and I only had the odd one or two photos of them together each month. The reason for the decline in photos … [Read more...]
What happens when a hero dies….
This wasn't the post I had in mind for today but yesterday something happened that affected me much more than I would have expected it to - a local radio commentator died after a short battle with cancer. His name was Ali Brownlee although it's highly unlikely that you'll have heard of him unless you live in the North East but he was a legend. He was one half of a team who commentated on the Boro matches on the local radio and despite never meeting him, his voice is just as familiar to me as any other voice I know. Commentators are supposed to be unbiased and neutral but he was far from … [Read more...]
How to make your home feel snug and cosy when it’s miserable outside (without spending a fortune)….
We've had our first real snow of the year today and even that was only around for long enough for a quick snowball fight before the sun came out and started to melt it!We made the most of it though and had a family snowball fight in the front garden while the dog looked through the window at us in disgust because he hates the snow. ;-)Even after just a few minutes outside in the cold, it was lovely to come in to our warm and cosy living room and snuggle up under the blankets and it got me thinking of other ways that we've made our house into a cosy and welcoming home. Here's just a … [Read more...]
Cabbage and Spring Greens Soup….
Cabbage and Spring Greens Soup!It doesn't sound very appetising does it?Since I got my soup maker for Christmas I'm constantly on the lookout for new recipes to try - the soup aisle in supermarkets always gets me thinking about what I can recreate at home and the fruit and veg sections provide me with just as much inspiration with the pre-prepared soup packs that they all seem to be selling these days.My Cabbage and Spring Greens Soup was inspired by a pack that I found in the fresh veg section of our local Asda which I thought sounded lovely when I saw it but didn't buy it at the … [Read more...]
Beautiful love quotes to print out and give to the person you love….
Do you and your partner 'do' Valentines Day?We don't and haven't for the last few years to be honest - not because we can't be bothered or because we don't love each other but because we don't think that a card and a bunch of flowers on one day of the year really means as much as showing each other how much we care all year round.Don't get me wrong, I love a bunch of flowers every now and again but honestly, I'd rather spend the money on something else and so would Mr Frugal. If you add it up, the cost of a card each, a small but nice bunch of flowers and a box of chocolates would cost … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week {12th February 2016}….
1) I made a double batch of my homemade slow cooker tomato sauce and used it for various different meals this week - We had chicken wrapped in bacon with this over the top and some sweet potato fries, we used it as a pizza topping for our homemade pizzas as well as a sauce to go with homemade meatballs and spaghetti. They were all completely different meals so no one really noticed that this was a vital part of each meal.2) I haven't been feeling amazing this week so I made myself some camomile, honey and lemon ice pops to try and help my throat instead of dosing up on … [Read more...]
