One thing I can never understand is the fact that, here in the UK, we spend almost 13 years (from aged 3-16) teaching our children things that someone, somewhere has decided that they need to know but we spend no time at all teaching them basic money management skills.I know for a fact that I would rather my children learn about financial matters so they can leave school confident that they know how to calculate and manage a monthly budget and that they know about the many financial products that are out there. I'm pretty sure they'll find that more useful than learning about the features … [Read more...]
Days Out: Middleham Castle and Forbidden Corner….
Last weekend we were looking for a bit of a special day out to celebrate the end of SATs for Master Frugal and the end of a hard exam week for Miss Frugal and after much debate we decided to visit Middleham Castle and Forbidden Corner. Middleham Castle Middleham Castle is somewhere I've wanted to visit for years now as I've read about it's history as a setting in a number of different books. It was the childhood home of King Richard III (also known as the Kingmaker) and is steeped in history and tragedy. It's probably one of my favourite places that we've been since we joined English … [Read more...]
Super easy iced bun recipe….
Miss Frugal and I are planning a little bit of a mini afternoon tea at home this afternoon so I thought I'd have a go at making some mini iced buns to serve. I had a good look online for a good iced bun recipe but in the end I went for a bit of a mix of them all as they were all pretty different calling for everything from salt to lemon rind and from vanilla to cinnamon. I even came across one that just involved adding sugar to a shop bought bread mix which is worth considering if you want even less faff than my super easy version.... Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {27th May 2016}….
I'm not sure if I can class this week as a frugal week if I'm honest as I've had so much on that I don't think I've had the chance to be particularly thrifty....1) I went out for a meal to Pizza Express on Wednesday night with my lovely team at work which you might think would have been an expensive night out but actually, we used buy one get one free vouchers for the pizzas (just Google pizza express vouchers and see what comes up) and I drank water rather than buying a drink. To be fair, the water was more of an accident as I had a slightly sore throat so I asked for a glass of water … [Read more...]

There's no getting away from the fact that money is pretty essential to us all so I'm not saying it isn't important because we all know that without money, life wouldn't be all that great. But there's lots of things that money can't help you achieve so I thought I'd share some of them with you today so next time you're feeling the pinch a little (or a lot) you might feel a little bit better thinking about the things that you do have rather than focusing on what you don't.Easier said that done, but worth a try! Money won't.... Buy people's respectFind friends that will stand by you … [Read more...]
Small things that make me smile {May 2016}….
This last month has been a great month with some brilliant stand out happy moments! We started the month with a cheeky long weekend to Cyprus for Miss Frugal and I which I know I may have mentioned a few times on here already( here and here mainly ) so I won't go into detail again but I will say that those five days were perfect. I can't remember ever feeling as relaxed and considering one of us was a hormonal teenager, you might be surprised to hear that there wasn't a single argument, mood or sulk over the whole time we were there! We've had some lovely days out together as a … [Read more...]
