I don't know what Miss Frugal does to her hair when she washes it but everytime she gets out of the bath, her hair is a mass of knots and tangles. To make it easier to comb through before scalp plaiting it for bed (she loves curly hair) we usually spray on a little bit of our homemade hair detangler which really does work wonders. We have a spray bottle that we usually use to make our homemade hair detangler in but last week we made up a smaller bottle ready to take on holiday with us. As I was making it, it occurred to me that I'd never written about how we made it before so I took a … [Read more...]
Warning: This post contains a serious amount of holiday spam….
If you've been reading my posts recently then you'll probably know that Miss Frugal and I booked a cheeky little holiday away in the sun. We left the menfolk here for a couple of reasons but mainly because neither of them really fancied the heat in Cyprus and also because Master Frugal has SATs coming up so he didn't want to miss school. They're going to do a quick break later in the year together and have their eye on Barcelona so they can watch a match at the Nou Camp although we quite fancy tagging along if they'll let us. ;-)We booked a four night stay at an all inclusive hotel in … [Read more...]
Why I didn’t join in with the protest against the SATs today….
Just before half term, it occurred to me that I hadn't seen Master Frugal's PE kit in a while and I joked to him that it must be getting smelly as I couldn't remember the last time he'd brought it home to wash. His reply astounded me.... It's OK Mam, it's not dirty because we haven't had PE in a while. We're way too busy doing extra SATs work to do PE! I spoke to his teacher and he was right, the year 6 pupils are apparently too busy revising for the SATs to do any PE and there were no plans to bring it back until after the SATs had been done. His teacher was lovely and tried to reassure … [Read more...]
This week’s meal plan {2nd May}….
This time yesterday I was lazing in the sun with a (non alcoholic) cocktail in my hand waiting for a lovely Halloumi and ham salad to be delivered to my sunbed while I made the most of the last few hours in the sun before we left Cyprus to travel home. This morning I've woken up to grey cloudy skies, a mountain of washing and a week's worth of meals to plan!I'm actually quite looking forward to planning this week's meals if I'm honest - mainly because I've had a week off from my Slimming World diet thanks to our all inclusive holiday and I can't wait to get back on it again. The food in … [Read more...]

This is a special edition of 5 frugal things because it's coming to you live (ish) from the beach where Miss Frugal and I are currently sunning ourselves on holiday....Holidays are certainly not moneysaving but there are lots of ways to book, pay and plan your holiday before you go that will save you some money so I thought today I'd just share with you some of the ways that we've saved money on our holiday.(I'm not even going to count the shopping around that I did to make sure we had the best deals for the holiday itself, for our travel insurance and for our foreign currency.)1) … [Read more...]
How I got on with my Springtime resolution
At the start of the month I shared with you my Springtime resolution, which was to lead a healthier lifestyle and today I wanted to give you an update on how the month has gone.I've lost a total of 6lb in April so far which is brilliant, even though it's a little less than I had hoped for as I was aiming for a steady 2lbs a week. I'm really pleased with the weight that I have lost since I started on Slimming World a few months back - especially as the clothes I've just bought in the sales are now a size smaller than I would have bought before. It's a huge boost trying on clothes in a … [Read more...]
