1) We had gammon and lamb as our Christmas Dinner meats as we're not huge turkey fans here and we had plenty of leftovers as I'm sure we all did. ;-) We all had gammon sandwiches for lunch on Boxing Day with most of the gammon leftovers but the last bits were made into a quiche which we had for tea with leftover potatoes cooked in our Air Fryer with a little olive oil drizzled on them to crisp them up.My Dad bought us a huge leg of lamb so we had a LOT of leftovers from that to use up and I thought it would be a good start to my batch cooking mission to use it to make some meals to go … [Read more...]
My word of the year for 2017….
I love the start of a new year, it's like opening a shiny new notebook and writing on the pages for the first time.Being a bit of a list-aholic and a planner, I always like to set myself some New Year's Resolutions, some targets for the year and most importantly to me, a word of the year.A word of the year might sound a bit geeky if you don't do it yourself but it's actually a great way to set your focus for the year ahead and having a word of the year over the past few years has genuinely helped me to focus and achieve some of the things I wanted to achieve. My word isn't a specific … [Read more...]
Easy Chocolate Traybake recipe {Baking on a Budget}….
One of my most popular posts ever is my famous (in my mind) packed lunch cake which I used to make regularly to add to my children's packed lunches which I could make for 6p per portion. The cake itself is delicious although the 6p price per portion does reflect the smaller portion size as it's made for a child's packed lunch. Even taking into account the portion sizes, it does work out at great value and if you wanted to cut it into less portions you could have a slice double the size of the one pictured above for just 12p!I haven't made this cake in ages as both of my children are … [Read more...]
Ten ways with Turkey leftovers….
I actually wrote this post originally four years ago today when I was faced with about three quarters of a huge turkey to try and use up in the days following Christmas. These days we don't do turkey on Christmas Day because we're not overly keen (hence all the turkey leftovers we had when I wrote this) but I did think it might be helpful for those of you who do have leftovers! On another note, it makes me smile to look at my photos from back then and even the way I used to write - it's a bit cringey (as Master Frugal would say) and I almost didn't re-share this but then I thought of all … [Read more...]
Manage your finances better next year with my new Financial Planner….
I hope you all had an amazing Christmas! We had a lovely day yesterday and I've woken up this morning feeling refreshed and happy after the lovely relaxing day we had yesterday. Christmas doesn't always live up to expectations with excited children and tired parents but I have to say that yesterday was great and we all really enjoyed our day.Now that it's over, I'm sat eyeing up the Christma tree trying to decide how soon is too soon to take it down and I know you're all going to tell me it's much too soon but I'm literally having to sit on my hands to stop me from packing everything … [Read more...]
