Contrary to popular belief, back to school shopping doesn't have to cost a fortune! For the last couple of weeks, emails keep dropping in my inbox telling me just how expensive it is to do your back to school shopping. From memory, I think that the amounts it's claimed that people spend range from £200 - £500 per child which I can't help but think is ridiculous for most schools.I get that there will be times when you will have to buy everything which will inevitably cost more but my two haven't cost anywhere near that much. Here's my top tops for saving money on your back to … [Read more...]
Super Simple Slow Cooker Vegetarian Curry Recipe….
This super simple Slow Cooker Vegetarian Curry recipe is so tasty that you would never believe it takes so little effort to prepare! This week I bought two packets of prepared sweet potato and butternut squash from the reduced section. They were only 50p per pack which is great value considering I was planning to use it to make my favourite spicy sweet potato and butternut squash soup with. But then I realised that I'd somehow missed a vital ingredient for the next night's tea so it was a case of either popping to the shop to buy it or sacrificing my soup to use my sweet potato and … [Read more...]
Family Days Out – The Donkey Sanctuary, Isle of Wight….
When I did my research into the Isle of Wight and wrote down a list of all the places we could potentially visit while we were there, the Donkey Sanctuary was most definitely not on my list, yet it turned out to be one of the best things we did!It just didn't seem like somewhere we'd enjoy all that much so it didn't make the cut onto our list of places that we wanted to try and visit. After taking a wrong turn on the way back to our caravan one afternoon though, we passed the sign for it so we thought we'd just pop in for a quick look around. It ended up being one of my favourite … [Read more...]
Fidget Spinner Boredom Buster….
Bored jars are so last year, this years new thing here in the frugal house is our homemade Fidget Spinner Boredom Buster!Sometimes I think that the reason children are so easily bored these days is because they have so many things to choose from when they’re thinking of something to do.I sound like an antique when I say that don’t I? I just think that sometimes having too much choice makes it harder to make a decision. That’s why I always used our bored jar when the kids were younger and later, when they were older we switched to our bored jar fit for a tween. These days … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {18th August 2017}….
1) I've been after some houseplants for a while now, nothing fancy, just something small to go on my kitchen windowsill. I don't have a great record with plants to be honest though so I really didn't want to pay too much but at the same time I wanted something that would look nice - I don't want much, do I?I found two little plants at Tesco last week though in the reduced section. They were clearly in the reduced section because they looked past the point of saving but at 25p each, I thought I'd buy them and see if I could bring them back from the dead. I decided it was highly unlikely but … [Read more...]
