We're huge fans of rail travel and over the years, I've shared so many of our train journeys with you. Last weekend was one of my favourite train journeys yet...Miss Frugal and I, along with one of her friends, decided to have a bit of a cheeky Christmas shopping day in London to mark the start of December. The men of the house decided that a shopping day in London was definitely not something they wanted to do so they stayed at home and did boy stuff (not sure what but it involved football, gaming and McDonalds). You might think we were a bit mad braving London on the first weekend … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {8 December 2017}….
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas so we've gone all festive for this week's five frugal things post...1) Master Frugal has asked us to buy him for Christmas is an Xbox game and whilst I have no problem buying it for him for Christmas, I did ask him if he had any old games that he didn't play on anymore that I could take back to get it a bit cheaper. At this age, with only two presents on his wishlist, he knows he's getting it so I don't feel like I ruined a surprise of anything and the games he gave me to take back meant that I bought the game for just £8 which just means he gets … [Read more...]
The Christmas tag – What I love most about Christmas….
The lovely Becky tagged me in the Christmas tag post that's doing the rounds at the moment and seeing as I love all things Christmas, I thought I'd join in and share a post of my own with you all to tell you what I love most about Christmas...What’s Your Favourite Christmas Movie? We have a bit of a family tradition of watching Christmas movies together every Christmas Eve so even though Elf is my favourite ever Christmas movie, I do have some very happy memories of snuggling with the kids on Christmas Eve and watching films like Santa Paws and Santa Claus the Movie. Have You Ever Had … [Read more...]
Fifty Ways to have a frugal but fun Christmas….
You honestly don't have to spend a lot of money to have a great Christmas so I thought that I'd share with you 50 ways that you can have an amazing Christmas on a budget with you today!Every year I hear about the amount of money people spend and read stories of people who are still paying off their Christmas debt halfway to next Christmas and it makes me sad. Not sad because of how much is money is actually spent because I totally get people who spend more than they probably should (I may occasionally be guilty of this) and ultimately, it's their money to spend how they want. No, … [Read more...]
My Santacam parenting fail….
You're either going to think I'm an absolute genius after reading this or you're going to think I'm the worst parent ever. ;-)Last week there was a child having a tantrum in Tesco when I was doing my weekly shopping. That doesn't bother me at all as I've been there myself so I just gave the poor frazzled looking Mum a sympathetic smile, stepped around the child in the middle of the freezer aisle and walked on. As I did, I heard the Mum say to the child that if he didn't get up them a man from the shop would come and take him away and he wouldn't get any Christmas presents.I must … [Read more...]
Feed your Family for a Fiver….
Do you think you could feed a family of four a three course meal for under five pounds? Here's my menu....Starter - Potato skins with garlic mayo (15p) I really love potato skins as a starter when we go out for a meal but it never occurred to me just how frugal it was for the restaurant serving it as the dish is literally made with potato peelings that would otherwise be thrown in the bin!I was planning to do mashed potato for our main course so I used a sharp knife to peel the potatoes which meant I got a little more potato on the peeling if that makes sense. ;-) I then just … [Read more...]
