Can you believe that I have NEVER been to the Lake District?
It’s not all that shocking considering I bet a good proportion of you reading this now probably haven’t been either but it is bad when you consider that I live within an hour and a half of what I’m led to believe is one of the most beautiful areas of the country.
I’ve decided that we’re going to put that right this Summer and, one way or another, we’ll be visiting for at least a couple of days during the Summer holidays – the kids want to camp but I’m not even sure I know where our tent even is. I have a vague recollection of hating our last camping trip that much that I possibly ‘loaned’ our tent to a friend who I may have told that they were welcome to hang on to it for as long as they want. As possession is 9/1o’s of the law then I suspect they have probably forgotten it was ever ours in the first place. 😉
I’m much more of a pretty cottage in the country kind of girl as I like my home comforts too much (namely my hairdryer and wifi) so I’ve been having a look for some cottages that I’d like to stay in and I’ve found some beauties. I’m spoilt for choice though so I could be a while deciding…
While I’m choosing where I’d like to stay, I’ve written us a bit of a bucket list of things that I want to do and see while we’re there:
Eat Kendall Mint Cake
Visit the World of Beatrix Potter
Go on a boat ride across Lake Windermere
Visit the very pretty looking Dove Cottage and The Wordsworth Museum
Visit the Lakes Aquarium
Wander with my camera
Pop into the Grasmere Gingerbread Shop
Visit Stott Park Bobbin Mill
Now, these are just the things that I’ve read about online that stand out as something we’d enjoy as a family. I’d love to hear your recommendations about some of the things we might enjoy that aren’t necessarily featured on the usual recommendation lists.
