I love taking photos but I’m far from being any good at it and even though I have a brilliant DSLR camera, I have no idea how to use it outside of the manual mode which is such a shame as it’s capable of taking much better photos than I currently take with it!
I’ve lost count of the number of times that I say I’m going to learn to take better photos and then done nothing about it and the fact that I feel like my photos aren’t as good as they could be has taken the shine off using my camera a little bit for me – so much so that I can’t even remember the last time I used it.
I’ve been using my iPhone for photos lately which is great for capturing quick moments but I really want to learn to use my camera properly so I decided to set myself a little photo challenge for the rest of February.
I’ve chosen a series of words that I want to capture on camera, vague enough that I can interpret them as I want depending on the mood I’m in but specific enough that I have a great starting point….

My plan is that by giving myself something to focus on then I’ll be motivated enough to get my camera out and experiment with it, learning how to use it in manual mode as I go along. I’m pretty sure my photos won’t be amazing but I’ll share them over on Instagram and Facebook so you can have a look at how I’m getting on if you want to.
Any other ideas on how I can learn to use my camera would be much much appreciated….

I need to love my camera again as Phone images are just not as good for those bigger pics we always want from Shutterfly! I need to keep it out and handy!
I've done a few workshops with Going Digital. Their tutors in my area are really fab. I thought it was great value for money as they cram a lot in to the day and you leave inspired to go home and do more. They do gift vouchers too and mothers day is coming up! xxx http://www.goingdigital.co.uk/
We really need to spend some time together. I fell in love with mine again last year
My best advice for learning how to use your camera, is just keep playing with it! Try different settings, see what happens, if it doesn't work, try another setting! Practise makes perfect and all that! x
I am hoping to do a photography course this year as want to take my camera of auto
Good luck, I have lost my mojo when it comes to photography this year. I may join you in your challenge.
I learnt how to use a SLR camera at school many years ago and I'm trying to teach my husband at the moment! I think he's starting to get to grips with ISO, aperture and shutter speed!
I think your prompt words are a great start and I look forward to seeing some of the resulting photos. Mich x
