McDonalds? Do you love it or hate it?
I must admit that I’m a fan. Some of my earliest memories are from when I used to go down town every Saturday with my mam and my brother, my mam used to like to trawl the charity shops looking for bargains (she always found them aswell) and by the end of the afternoon me and my brother were sick of following her around and she was tired from all her bargain hunting so we stopped in the newly opened McDonalds for a drink. To this day, the smell of McDonalds reminds me of shopping with my mam 😉
Fast forward 20 (ish) years and McDonalds is now a place to go with the my children. The menu is quite different now (there’s no chocolate donuts for a start) and the Happy Meal is a life saver for Mr Frugal (his words not mine) when I’m at work and there’s nothing in for him to cook the kids for tea (when I say nothing in, I mean nothing he can actually be bothered to cook ;-)).
They usually have chicken nuggets or fish fingers with fries and either water or milk and considering you get a little toy as well, I think that’s pretty good for £1.99. Obviously this wouldn’t be good for them on a regular basis but I’ve checked the McDonalds website and I’m quite happy that the food, whilst not being healthy isn’t unhealthy, if you see what I mean. It would be a lot healthier if they chose the carrot sticks option instead of the fries but sadly, that’s not going to happen anytime soon lol.

In a recent interview with Jamie Oliver, he actually praised McDonalds in the UK for the quality of their beef and the fact that they only use free range eggs and organic milk. He even praised them on their ethics – a long way from what he has said in the past which is probably a fair indication that McDonalds are changing the way they operate.
I started this post ages ago but never got around to finishing it until I read a post by Notsuchayummymummy yesterday, the photos of her little boy eating his McDonalds are so cute so pop over and have a look when you’re done leaving me lots of comments here 😉
So back to my original question, McDonalds – Love it or Hate it?

Hm, Now i am happy with this nevertheless not fully positive, hence i am going to research a touch more.
I just wanted to comment your blog and say that I really enjoyed reading your blog post here. It was very informative and I also digg the way you write! Keep it up and I’ll be back to read more in the future…
Oooh I think I definitely don't want to know lol
Oooh I think I definitely don't want to know lol
I agree – once in a while as a treat is fine.
I think loads of us have McDonald's memories don't we – they should make an advert of us lol
Thats sounds like a good idea – home made McDonalds. I might try that with them 😉
I'm more of a KFC person myself aswell x
Not a fan… I read Fast Food Nation a few years ago and since then haven't even been through the doors… Sometimes it's best not to know things!!
x
I'm not a fast food fan at all, the only one I'll eat is KFC. It's not something I ever had as a child, I never wanted it, so to me it just tastes rubbish!
McDonalds. Just like Marmite. You either love it or you hate it! I can see the appeal for parents. Quick, not so pricey and the kids love it. Its just not something I eat so I havent taken them there yet. I think its like everything. In moderation, with a balanced diet, its probably fine. But I am a bit of a control freak and like to know whats in my food, so I am likely to try and re-create it at home but make it myself…
I had a similar thing my nan used to take me and my brother into town on the bus about once a month it became a ritual and then we would end up in mcdonalds it was her little treat and we loved it. My 2 1/2 year old has yet to have a mcdonalds, she is really fussy and there would be no point but I think as a treat once in a while would be fine it did me no harm!
Mmmm used to go lovely with a chocolate donut – I was gutted when they
stopped making them 😉
The do really good coffee – love it 🙂 Jen.
It is a nice treat isn't it? I agree that as long as it's in moderation it's fine (although I will avoid the BBQ sauce lol)
I'll look forward to reading your post – that was a lovely thing to say – you've made my day 😉
I think it's the toy that makes the meal for my two 😉
I'm with you and Beth too, KFC all the way for me!
I know what you mean about them getting used to the place – they would eat it every day if they could although I think that's probably got more to do with the toy than the food lol.
I'm quite lucky that they are generally healthy eaters and would prefer fruit to sweets and water to pop most times but I know I need to watch out to make sure it stays that way.
😉
Lol – each to their own and I'm actually a bit jealous that you get an organic veg box – I am so tempted by this but it puts me off that you don't choose the veg so I think I would probably waste more than we would use.
Mmmmm KFC 😉
Zinger Tower Burger and fries with gravy – now you're talking lol
Aaaaw they're lovely memories – no wonder you love it.
I think McDonalds is a part of a lot of peoples childhood memories isn't it?
Thank you for sharing x x
I'm with Yummy Mummy on this one, sorry…
I don't want to start getting my kids too used to the place, so it's just easier to try and steer clear completely. I have only taken them once, and that was after returning from holiday – it was 6pm on a Saturday evening, two hungry kids and nothing else vaguely edible in sight. Thankfully they were too young at the time to remember it… 😀
Oh no, you're all going to hate me but I can't stand McDonalds.. I know it's not the worst thing in the world to give to your kids but I can honestly count on my fingers how many my four children have had. I avoid those golden arches like the plague, I have to say *runs away to hide behind her organic veg box*
Thanks! I've always loved McD's. My Dad & I used to go to Morrisons first thing on a Saturday morning then to McD's for a cheeseburger and fries. It was our time without my Mum or my sister. When I was pregnant it was all I craved!
It is much better now as long as, like everything, you eat it in moderation. I'm happy for Sam to have it now & again, it's a nice treat!
Funnily enough I'm writing a randomish post & linking to you! It's about never having enough time to do anything & how I've realised other people do more, do it better & still have time to blog lovely things. You inspired me!
My children have had a happy meal 3 times in their lives (my son is 2) once on holiday in Portugal with another family, once with my sister and niece and once with me alone. Not a lot in 2 years is it 🙂 Well that is because we don't live near one really – the thing about macdonalds I like is the way the smalls are so taken with the toy and the box that there is no fuss and no fight just happy eating. I'm with Beth though, KFC is my favourite too…
McDonalds is a hit with Little Man, but not so with me.. I much prefer KFC…. :s
Mmmm I want to try 😉
Oh it's WAY better. Our Sausage Biscuits are on actual biscuits (in the UK they are on english muffins). Trust me, I've had both– WAY better 🙂
It couldn't possible be better than the breakfast the UK ones serve – they
are my favourite food in the world lol
I love McDonald's breakfast, but it's SOOO much better in America 🙂
Love it – and that's because two of my fondest memories are associated with McDonald's. Number one was all the way back in 1967 – July 4th, 1967 to be exact (I was seven years old). My friend Linda and I taped long sheets of paper to our garage door and colored an American flag in celebration of Independence Day. A man drove by in a white sports car, hopped out (I'll always remember that he didn't open the door, he hopped over it!) and handed us each a coupon for a free hamburger, fries and milkshake at the local McDonald's for flying the flag. From what I can see from Googling “McDonald's Menu”, these were just about the only items on the menu at that time. The food was delicious and I've loved McD's chocolate shakes from that day on.
My second memory was in 1995 when my parents came over from England to visit us in Florida. Vic was deployed so it was just Sophia and I (she was almost two years old). We went to the small McDonald's located in our local Wal Mart for lunch while taking a break from shopping. I think we probably all had hamburgers and fries (Happy Meal for Sophia) and I always remember how much Mum loved McDonald's fries – piping hot and covered with salt. As the years go by, we cannot eat McD's fries without thinking of Mum/Nana.
