I’m so excited that Spring seems to be on it’s way!
Just the sight of the blue skies I’ve seen lately has made me feel happier in myself and I have this month in my head as the month that things will finally start to get back to normal. I really want to feel like me again and I’m only going to be able to feel like that until all of my niggling issues have gone (you can ready about my op here).
March Goals – Personal
My personal goals for February were all about taking it easy, catching up with friends and getting back into Slimming World. I managed two and a half out of three….
- Taking it easy – I smashed this one although I suspect that I may have taken it a bit far judging by the size of my to-do list right now!
- Catching up with friends – This is a work in progress but I’ve definitely started to join in with things again now and I’ve been to the pictures and had a few other trips out with friends.
- Slimming World – It took me until the middle of the month to get back into this and only then half heartedly so I’m only classing this as a half success!
March is going to be about getting the balance back in my life I think because I spent six months doing nothing, then I went back to work in January and pushed myself too hard so I spend February going backwards and doing not very much.
With just over a month to go until New York I suspect a large chunk of my time this month will be spent on preparations for that. Miss Frugal is currently making me watch at least one YouTube video a night so I’m at the point now where I think I know New York better than the town where I live and if I have to watch one more shopping haul vlog I’m going to scream. I shouldn’t grumble though because I do love the time we’re spending together at the moment.
March Goals – Home
Last month I wanted to get my downstairs measured for my planned new carpets, make myself a photo wall in the kitchen and rearrange the dining room. I managed one of these things and failed spectacularly on another….
- My total fail was the carpets because I spent the money I’d put aside for them on a family trip to Milan in May! I don’t regret booking the trip at all but it does put me back somewhat with my new carpets!
- I’ve chosen a few of the photos I want to include on my photo wall but that’s about as far as I’ve got unfortunately.
- I did totally rearrange my dining room though so we now have much more space as well as it looking much better than it did before.
This month I’m not sure that I have any house goals although I’d love to get Mr Frugal to paint my kitchen if I can catch him in a good mood.
March Goals – Money
I did great with my money goals for last month and managed to finish paying for New York although I haven’t paid for our attraction passes yet although I did only overpay by £100.
- This month I want to overpay by £200 again but I’m not sure how likely this is seeing as we our New York spending money to save for now.
- I want to choose and pay for our New York passes – there are so many companies to choose from though so I have to choose which company to go with before I book them.
- I need to figure out the best way to take our money to New York too as I don’t want to be charged extra if I can help it.
What are your March goals?

Very envious of your trips. Hoping you are continuing to improve healthwise. I think I'd like to declutter and get up to date so I can take some time off at Easter.
I do things that like – I set aside money for new doors and to decorate……..I booked a trip to Lapland with it #oops
I love the idea of monthly goals, it really is something I should try as I am sure it helps to focus you more on what needs doing. New York is getting close, I bet you can't wait no
Good luck with getting your kitchen painted, and for your New York goals, not long till you go now really! 🙂 x
So great to have goals each month – must help stay organised and focussed. Just popped over and read about your operation – sounds horrendous – so sorry you had to go through all that pain, and thank you for sharing about it – i honestly think bloggers can have a massive impact on raising awareness of medical issues by writing about their experiences as it can help others so much. We are hoping to get some info on our blog about our daughters JIA in the hope it will help others as we found little information of help out there when she got her diagnosis. Wishing you a continued recovery and a wonderful March. x
New York is incredible and there is so much to see and do for free in the city – be prepared for long walks though! Wear comfy shoes! I had to laugh when I read you'd spent your carpet money on a trip! This is something I'd do! The trip will be fab for memory making – the carpets will still be in the shop when you get back! Have fun on all your travels! x
Hi Cass, really pleased to hear that you are on the mend and looking forward to your New York trip – if I can give you some advice it would be, not to waste money on a New York pass. As its your first trip to the big apple there will be so much to see and do that is free that you don't need to waste money on a pass, but rather choose your attractions carefully as you will be amazed at how quick the time passes. We paid for entry to the top of the Rock and for a subway pass – everything else was free – Staten Island ferry to see the Statue of Liberty, 911 memorial area, walking across Brooklyn bridge, walking around Central Park, grand central terminal, the cable car to Roosevelt island, Macy's, tiffanys, Bloomingdales, love statue, walking the high line, Bryant park, battery park, Madison square gardens, FAO Schwartz – all classic landmarks and all free. If you want my itinerary I am happy to email it to you.
We used a Revolout Card when we went to Canada and the US last year. It's a mastercard, so accepted practically everywhere. You top it up in Pounds and then it converts at point of sale into the currency of the place your in. This does leave you a bit open to the exchange rates, but also means your money isn't trapped on there in your chosen currency (like some foreign money cards!). The app on the phone is really useful and tells you everything you've spent and how much that converts back too. You can also use it to withdraw cash from cash machines as well.
The only draw back we found in the states is when you pay for food they "soft charge" your card with the food bill, then hard charge it with the food bill + tip. Easy way to get around this though (and what we'd do next time we go state side) is pay for the food on the card and leave a cash tip.
Money Saving Expert normally has a code for a few quid off as well; which normally means postage is free.
I feel inspired by your post and am just writing my March goals. This year seems to be flying. x
You have some good goals to stick too.
One of my goals this month is to slow down!
