It’s Saturday morning which means it’s time for the next post in my ‘How to Make Money‘ series.
This week’s post is a bit of a two in one for you as it’s about how one blogger has learned to make money by entering competitions and by completing surveys. I’ve asked the lovely Katy from Katy Kicker to share her experiences with us all today as I know that she has much more knowledge to share with you on this than I do. 😉
Back in 2013 I was working a job that I couldn’t stand. My manager was rude, my life was a bit miserable and I had finally had enough. I was already dabbling a little with making money online and then I spoke to my husband and he said he could cover the bills. This gave me the push that I needed to quit my job and begin to work for myself. Fast forward 4 years and things are going fantastic for me now. I’m making significantly more than I would be in a full-time retail job and best of all I don’t work full-time hours most weeks! Today I want to share with you a couple of ways that I’ve boosted my income in the past few years. Entering competitions to make money and completing paid surveys.
Entering competitions to make money
Now let me start by saying that this is NEVER going to be a guaranteed income stream. However, if you’re looking for new ways to make money, or maybe get a few nice items for your family, then you can’t go wrong with entering competitions. There are websites, and sections of forums, dedicated to helping you find 100s of competitions to enter every single day.
In the past I have entered competitions with a view to selling the prizes that I received. For a while I kept a tally of the number of competitions that I had entered and on average I was winning one competition for every 80 I was entering, not bad. This was a mixture of lower value and medium value prizes.
When looking to enter competitions to make money it is a good idea to have an idea of what you want to win. For me personally I wanted to win cash, gift vouchers, discount vouchers, money off coupons and actual items. As well as winning items with a view to selling them I would also enter competitions to win items that we would be needing in the future. For example when my daughter was first born I entered competitions for toys, clothes, baby items etc that she would need further down the line. This meant that if I wasn’t successful, as you won’t always be of course, then I had time to purchase the items still. I’ve shared to try to help others be successful, whether entering to make money or just to win a few nice items.
Completing paid surveys
Completing paid surveys, and other market research, is something that I have been undertaking for a few years on the internet now. I quite like being able to give my opinion, test new products and attend focus groups. Over the years I have made £10,000s! This has been a fantastic help for my family, but I won’t pretend that surveys are always easy money. Sometimes the payments on offer are low, for the time it would take. However, I combat this by filtering through the emails and invitations I get each day and just sticking to completing the better paying surveys. It is possible to make £100s every single month, particularly if you are already working from home or have lots of free time.
Over the years I have been able to give my opinion on a number of products and then often see those come on to the market. I like knowing that my opinion has helped to make a product better for consumers and best of all there is money to be made doing this as well. As I have become busier online I have gradually left behind some of the lower paying survey websites. This is just because I can make more money working on or completing other work online now. I do still have a number of survey websites that I enjoy using and it is possible to make a few hundred pounds each month from them. Visit my if you’d like to find a few companies to join yourself.
There are so many ways to make money online now that really nobody needs to do something they find boring. I know other people don’t enjoy the paid surveys as much as me, so they do e-Bay reselling, paid web search evaluation work or work as a virtual assistant. There are so many choices when it comes to making money now that I’m never without something to do. I love to make money online, and save it too, and I’ve got a huge list full of great posts to help you too.
