Since I started blogging my obsession with taking photos of everything has got worse – I’m rarely without a camera these days and my poor kids are used to me taking photos of everything that we do or making them do something again as I didn’t get a good picture the first time. Even the poor puppy is used to me pointing the camera at him everytime he does something cute, although he’s not as willing to do something again for me just for the sake of a good picture!
I take so many photos that I rarely have time to organise them into any sort of order, all I do is transfer them to my laptop and store them in folders according to the month they were taken. Every six months of so, I have a mammoth photo sorting afternoon/day/week where I go through all of the photos and delete the ones where I have 20 of practically the same image and the ones that are just of my finger over the lens or other similar disasters and I transfer the rest to a memory stick, to be stored safely in my memory stick box.
The last time I did this was at the end of the school holidays, so I’ve built up quite a collection of photos on my laptop since then – the annual back to school picture, Miss Frugal’s birthday party, trips out and just general fun at home. Which is why I’m gutted that my netbook has died and taken all of these photos with it! I can’t believe I knew it was on it’s way out but I never thought to transfer the photos over and now I’ve lost them all. I know you might think I’m being a bit over dramatic but even though the pictures I take aren’t brilliant, they all record a moment, they’re like a snapshot of a memory and I have a box filled with memory sticks that are filled with happy memories and that makes me happy to know that they’re all there, in one place. And just in case you didn’t already think I was a sad case, I keep my memory stick box in a wicker basket near the front door so if ever there was a fire or something, I could grab it on the way out (I bet you’re laughing at me now ;-))
So, what have you learned form this sad little story? If you’ve learned that you need to back up your photos more often than I do then my job here is done. If, on the other hand, you’ve learned that I’m just a sad little person who is photo obsessed, then just move along and forget you were ever here….
I considered making this post a photo-less post as I am photo-less now but I decided to randomly share last year’s back to school photo again. This was back to school daddy style as I was at work on the morning they went back:

Another great post
Pretty! That was a really fantastic post. Appreciate your your provided information.
Thanks very much x
I really need to back up my photos. I have every photo taken since C was born on my laptop so would be gutted if I lost them!
I know what you mean, luckily I only had a few months on mine but I was still upset x

Cass I am just writing to agree with the above people my laptop died and my brother who works in the computer industry took it away and managed to retrieve all but three photos and then saved them to a cloud for me so they would always be somewhere for me. If yo9u know someone who deals with computers or take it to a shop no matter how damaged your netbook is there should be a way of retrieving the photos. I hope you retrieve them every memory is important especially if they are of loved ones and friends.
I'm definitely going to see if I can get this done, my brother in law is very technical (unlike me lol) so I've asked hom if he can have a look asap and see what he can do – thank you x
Oh no, how awful. I would be beyond devastated if I lost any of my photos. As well as backing up I having been doing a mammoth printing session lately and been filling up lots of albums with hard copies. And I have lots of photos scattered on various places on the internet. What I really need to do is have a good clean up of my computer deleting lots of the rubbish photos which will never get used for anything. I must have thousands and thousands of photos.
I have so many photos too and I really must start printing them out – no point having them on a memory stick where people wont get to see them x
This happened to me about 18 months ago, i took my broken laptop to a little computer shop and by some magic he was able to recover 90% of my photos for me.x
A few people have said that – I'm going to check it out.
Thanks very much x x
Argh that's so annoying that you lost them all!!! I only back up my photos and blog posts about every 6 months and I keep promising myself that I will do it every month!!!
I know I was gutted, only photos though I suppose (that's what I keep saying lol)
I do the same as you – I really must start to back them up more regularly, just in case!
x
You never know do you? I've done this weeks today so hopefully I'll keep on to of it x
that is a great photo!! daddies are the best at dressing children
i try to back mine up but delete them eventually as I normally get them developed!
lol he forgot their new jumpers and everything, I think I'm going to start printing more of mine off too x
