My girl went shopping with her friends at our local shopping centre, at the age of 10, and I was so nervous to hear from her! She's been several times since and each time I get more relaxed about it. But then the next thing will come, and the next. It's time for them to challenge our control over everything, and it's right, but it's so hard as a parent!

It's hard here as children have a lot more freedom. They walk to school on their own from a very young age, and they have the freedom that we had as kids. It doesn't feel any safer to me though, and friends don't understand my reluctance to let my older two out of my sight…

I can imagine how scary it must have felt though!

Would it be possible to get him a little Pay as you Go phone that just does calls and texts so that he can get in contact if there are any problems?
